So...Victus had a little too much to drink
Can you share some stuff about your Victus Ryder? He looks like such a sweet pea!
I’ve actually been meaning to write up a little Victus fact post, so thank you so much for your ask! It provides a wonderful opportunity to talk more about Vic!
-Adopted by the Ryder family at a very young age, no older than a year. I haven’t nailed down the exact circumstances of his adoption, but I’m leaning towards it either being that his parents were friends of the Ryders who died in an accident, or that Alec felt some sort of residual guilt or PTSD from the First Contact War and decided to adopt a turian child as a result.
-Never felt like an outsider within the Ryder household, even despite being a separate species.
-Growing up Ellen would label all dextro-amino foods in the house “Vic” so that he knew what was safe to eat. At birthday parties a slice of dextro-cake would always be provided for him
-What he was used to though was getting weird looks from strangers when he was out with his family. Was often asked if he was lost, or if he couldn’t find his parents.
-Always wanted to be closer to Alec, but his father’s work prevented that by and large.
-Was very close with his mom. When Ellen got sick, Vic took leave from work to take care of her. He was around her most when her condition deteriorated, and was deeply affected by her “death.”
-That being said, he was absolutely the closest with his sister, Sara. The two are best friends, and would always be getting into trouble with each other growing up.
-One night as teenagers they took a joyride in their parents’ car and drove it around the Presidium. They did not have their license. Ellen got woken up in the middle of the night to find her two kids being escorted home by a fairly grumpy C-Sec officer. The two were promptly grounded.
-Victus shares Sara’s interest in Prothean studies, but never quite had the same mental patience to study it.
-In university they spoke over video calls weekly, sometimes more often than that.
-He is currently awaiting his sister’s recovery so that they can explore Andromeda together.
-Despite all outward appearances and big himbo energy, Vic is fairly intelligent. Before enlisting with the Alliance he got dual degrees in Computer Engineering and Astronautics.
-Enlisting in the Systems Alliance was a challenge in of itself, as no turian had ever been a part of it. Vic hit several brick walls at first and was denied enlistment time and again. It wasn’t until Alec stepped in and pulled some strings that it was allowed, and there was some unwanted media buzz about it thereafter.
-Service was the most he’d ever felt like an “alien,” and he stood out like a sore thumb. He learned to quickly roll with it though, which has helped his assimilation to the Andromeda galaxy.
-Very nearly got discharged from the Alliance during Saren’s attack on the Citadel. Knowing Sara was stationed there at the time, Vic almost commandeered a small ship to go to her rescue, and was very tempted to do so. However, he was mindful enough to panic-call his dad first, who subsequently talked him down. Sara got a big hug the next time he saw her.
-After signing with the Initiative, Vic only brought four things from the Milky Way with him: a model ship, a photo album that Ellen kept, and a teddy bear from his childhood.
-Plays videogames on his spare time, though the online scene is pretty dead in the time of Andromeda. Is a fan of such titles as N7: Code of Honor: Medal of Duty and Grim Terminus Alliance. Unknowingly ran into Legion on the former before leaving for Andromeda, and rage-quitted against him for “being a VI-using cheater.”
-Games with some of the crew. Liam, Gil, and Drack have been the most willing to participate. Lexi is the holdout that Vic is determined to win over.
-Vic is the kind of guy who talks at movies while watching them. Not in a theater, mind you, but when at home with friends and family he’s a bit of a blabbermouth. Surprise-twists in movies are often met with a Vic-track of “No! What? No way!”
-Loves scary movies; is easily scared.
-Enjoys antiquated puzzles, but more enjoys helping Sara with them, since that’s more of her hobby. The pieces are so damn small.
-Is terrible at cards, and knows it.
-Love life: active but not super active. He’s had a few short-lived relationships, but nothing incredibly serious. He’s had a few - to paraphrase what he tells Liam, “one-night-all-night”ers.
-Presently having a fling with PeeBee, no strings attached.
-Enjoys using flirtation as a means of teasing and having fun with people, and isn’t always serious about it. That being said, he’ll typically roll with it if it’s reciprocated.
-Current leaders for who he’ll end up romancing are Cora, PeeBee, and Jaal. Remains to be seen though.
-Just generally a sarcastic and quippy guy. Lots of energy, and fun to be around.
So yeah, that’s a not-so-brief introduction to Victus Ryder! Thank you so much for the ask! If there’s anything else you’d like to know that I didn’t cover, feel free to ask more!
