For the Love of Vidding!

VidRecs.com is a labor of love and the time to begin sharing about it is now. It took a long time for the Knicks to get to where they are. Perhaps it's time for a place for Vid Recs. Many years have gone into this project with a specific vision in mind. What is this visison?

Remember what it was like to discover one of your favorite vids for the first time? The interpretation of the lyrics, the creative song choice, the way the character seemed to embody the emotion conveyed in the song and the clear command of the craft of editing displayed by a pace that was just perfect. Those moments can be rare. Less so at cons. Recs sites are numerous and come and go based on the fan friendliness of the platform. Even if the platform is friendly the usual design of vid rec sites is based on a timeline and the older the rec the harder it is to find.

Discover Recs by Fandom Genre: AU, Crossover, Slash, FemSlash, etc. We want this to be the best discovery engine.

Everyone has recs but we probably depend on random You Tube Playlists with ads or disparate blogs or bookmarks. Vidrecs.com is called Vidrecs.com for a reason. It's not trying to be a Vidding versions of You Tube. It's a place for your vid recs. It may grow into something else but it's a good start. After all Nextflix started with DVDs by mail. This is how we are starting.

If the vid is on AO3 we make it simple to share your love there. There is no comment section for Vids already embedded AO3.

Discover vids from You Tube & Vimeo in one place. That included the ability to create mixed playlists from vids recced on the site.

Create your own Rec Channel comprised of all your recs

There is even more to mention but this alone gives you a sense of what's possible. This project started in 2018. It's only during this year when it started to develop momentum.

One of the most important aspects of the site is that we own the domain. It is not subject to corporate interests. We have attempted to take everything into account. However, there is one thing we can't control and that is your interest. Would you support a fan run project like this? Would you contribute to is development? You get to choose. If there is enough interest, we will continue develop this project. If not, then perhaps we expected too much. If you have any questions, you can contact me at [email protected]. I will reply right back to you. I promise. Sometimes with projects like this people assume the worst and without evidence claim something is happening when it's not. In one instance someone asked why we were hosting other people's vids. I said we are not hosting vids. Then it seemed like they said "then why are you hosting vids?" I had to repeat again we are not hosting vids. Then they said "the way you presented made me think you were hosting vids." I said I never used the word host. I just told you twice I am not hosting vids and now you are saying it's my fault for making you believe that after telling you that twice? It's exhausting. It's better to just ask first before assuming. Then they might tell other people he said he is not hosting but I don't trust this guy. Just kills efforts like this the way new tv shows can get cancelled before their time. Share this with those you think might be interested. Fanvids have not received the same attention as fanfic and yet it is more expensive to preserve and develop. This project really is for the love of Vidding.
