hi!! if ur still doing the media opinions, i’m watching little evil (2017) right now. there was a joke where the two main characters are looking for a demon hunter and assume a guy who is average height and muscular is the demon hunter, but then it cuts to a man (a little person played by brad williams) saying he is the demon hunter. it doesn’t show his face and it kind of felt like the joke was “haha he’s a little person”. then he’s called “a little demon hunter” by a main character and immediately dies in a car crash 😭 i started typing that when just the introduction had happened but then got to his death. my parents (we are not little people) are insisting this is not weird and frankly kind of ableist, and think this is Representation. what are your thoughts on this as a little person?

In Little Evil (2017) it is clear that Brad William's character was only there for comic relief before immediately dying - this is not good representation. This happens a lot in comedic horror films, wherein a marginalized character is killed off early and really only used for humour at their expense - often they are black, fat, queer, etc. It feels like a very extreme way to say that these characters do not matter in their world, and is essentially a nod to real world discrimination.

How to Draw an Orange
A presentation by Mike Monteiro, designer and guy who talks and writes a lot about art and labor opinions I tend to agree with.
I'm disappointed that it took me eight months to sit down and pay attention long enough to watch the full recording of Mike Monteiro's presentation "How to Draw an Orange" from Y Oslo last year.
This presentation uses and expands on his post about a reader's relationship with their art, with the majority of added content centering on AI and the harm it does to people, society and the world in which we live. (I wholeheartedly recommend the original blog post linked above if you're a creative who struggles with confidence in your craft).
I beseech thee to watch or listen to the entire presentation recording, but understand that attention is at a premium, so here are some links to segments throughout:
"We announce our place in the world by marking it." (art is inherent to humans and we use it to communicate with one another)
"How good are you at what you do?" (AI preys on and reinforces any belief that you are not competent)
"There is nothing benevolent about this." (techbro oligarchs do not care about making the world a better place, they care only about becoming more wealthy and more powerful)
"These companies need a hit, and they need a hit bad." (the tech industry has ceased to innovate in meaningful ways and is trying to solve their problems with money and it is not working)
"Any chance for a nuanced conversation about AI went out the window when the tech oligarchs declared war on my neighbors." (self explanatory)
This entire analogy about AI and those old mail-order sea monkey kits (brine shrimp)
"More chips, more money, more water." (AI companies will never stop draining our resources, and it will always negatively impact the working class most)
Mike's conclusion is the last 15-ish minutes of the video, which I think should be the segment you watch or listen to if you only have 15 minutes to spare.

So I had a mental image of Wukong singing to m the egg/baby Yubei and stuff. He actually has a really sweet, soft, soothing voice when it comes to singing, sort of like this guy's voice:

And we all know Wukogn has stage fright. What if the way the LMK gang finds out about it isn't because of the Lantern City Talant Show, but rather from them simply catching him while he was singing to his egg and him being extremely embarrassed because he legitimately forgot there were PEOPLE who come to visit him now

Its a really bittersweet song too, since Wukong honestly wonders/worries if he'll ever meet his baby. At least in this life.
And he def has a beautiful voice only his most trusted family (or Macaque) are allowed to hear.
I love the idea of him singing like an angel, only to see a member of the gang and shriek monkey-like in embarassment.
