This is a testimonial about Lathrop Lybrook’s time trapped in the troubled teen industry. In 1998 and 1999, her parents signed her rights over to CEDU Family of Services. Since that time, CEDU has been shut down as a result of losing several lawsuits for battery, neglect, racketeering, invasion of privacy, and child abuse. None of the staff saw consequences for the abuse of the children in their care and many went onto continue working in the troubled teen industry including opening new schools.
The CEDU campus was also the center of a police investigation into whether the serial killer James Lee Crummel, who committed suicide in prison. At the time where several boys disappeared from the campus, the serial killer had unrestricted access to the campus due to his connection to the school's Doctor Burnell Forgey. The boys are missing to this day.
CEDU closed in 2005. While the California campus was sold, some of the schools were continued under new ownership. The last school located in Idaho closed a year or two ago.
