Sometimes the harder something is, the more satisfaction it brings. Not so with the Viel del Pan. If I had named it, the hike would be instead the Wunderbar Via Uber Epic Cakewalk because wow it was all those things.

I don’t think I’ve ever experienced such breathtaking views around every corner with such the smallestt bit of effort. The clouds moving through the valleys dappled the sloping pastures with romantic light while dogs herded sheep up the plateau and 91-yr-old Italian men deftly maneuvered their trekking poles through the manicured trails. (He was wearing cologne, in case you were wondering.)
