I complained during the Iceland storyline about how incredibly unrealistic it is that they live the way they do in a place where literally nothing grows, but Greenland is that but ten times as bad.
Are you telling me the settlers somehow brought enough wood and cloth with them on those two little boats to build eight houses? LOL!
I also love how you can see tree branches lying around in every outside shot. Where do they come from, I wonder? On this treeless island? Did the trees all walk away and leave some branches behind?
Do you realize you can’t just put any seed you want into any random soil you want and automatically have it flourish? If you have a soil on which nothing grows, then chances are nothing will grow. You need to at the very least fertilize that shit. And you can’t. Yes, sometimes you can grow something without fertilizing. That’s the case if you cut/burn down a forest that has spent millennia building up topsoil. Which isn’t the case here, apparently.
@ Hirst: Please consider reading this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greenlandic_cuisine
At least on Iceland they have goats (who eat... dirt?), so they have a milk source, which is something.
And if we leave Hirst’s imaginary fantasy version of the world for a second: Grass exists on Greenland. Trees are thought to have existed there in the Middle Ages. It was warmer back then. Just like Iceland was covered in forest when the Vikings first got there.
So Hirst made Judith into a ruthless sadistic torturer in an attempt to make her interesting. Didn't work.
LMAO what does when it comes to his recent writing?
After Vikings' last episode, and as a long term Vikings fan, I just can't help but feel the need to make this post.
In case you watched it and you still have questionmarks about the scene between Lagertha and Harald, let me enlighten you: Lagertha raped him.
Lagertha has been praised across fandoms for being one of the most succesful strong female characters on screen. She is a warrior, but also a mother, a lover, without any of these additions making her weak. Her shield design has become a symbol of feminism, a sign that women, in addition to being themselves and being feminine, can be warriors too.
Having Lagertha rape a helpless man is not only disgusting, it's an insult to all the fans, all the support it brought to women who found in her a strong, reliable character that they could advocate for. Thousands of people will watch this scene and see that a strong woman, in addition to being a warrior, a mother and a lover, also needs to show the world she can take matters into her hand by preying on the weak. And it's sickening.
So I want all of you to know that this is not what a strong woman does. This character that once set an example to the world should no longer be allowed to have that spotlight.
As a woman, as a warrior, I want to speak out against this writing. In the hopes that if enough people see this, even if this cannot be set right in terms of writing, we might at least be aware.
“oh ubbe tolerates lagertha and torvi because of bjorn”
“no ubbe tolerates Lagertha because of Torvi”
“because of both man and ex-wife godamn it”
“shut up she’s the best mother figure he has ever had”
Guys please I only tolerate UBBE because of a queerbaited ship WHAT THE FUCK
I actually had to laugh out loud during some scenes this episode. Floki feeds 5 people with a rotten fish, because apparently he can’t fish anymore and just found a dead fish somewhere. Björn obsesses over Lagertha until he suddenly decides he doesn’t care about his mother’s strange disappearance and will randomly raid Kattegat now. Also he lets Gunnhild go only and purely because she won’t sleep with him otherwise. Aethelred changes personalities three times over the course of one episode, then dies uttering the famous last words “What kind of a mother are you?” Ivar, having read lines in Latin books while all the North was dark, knows what a cynic is.
Also, Hvitserk converts to Buddhism after talking to / being made fun of by a (possible) Buddhist for 5 seconds. LOL. I bet Hirst lay awake at night for a month after the last season beating himself up for not going through with making Floki a Muslim. Well he won’t miss his chance a second time! And next episode Gunnhild will be revealed to have been a Jedi all along. Lagertha is afk because she is in Vinland founding Mormonism and teaching the art of eternal youth.
And yet the one actually important religious thing that SHOULD be happening, namely Alfred having visions of the Virgin Mary, isn’t happening so far.
If you watched trailers for the last three seasons of "Vikings," the only thing that would maybe tell them apart is Lagertha's gray hair (which was long overdue). Apart from that, every trailer is just some interchangeable doomsday commercial for some overwrought, over-hyped battle scene which we're assured is going to destroy their whole world as we know it. But, of course, it doesn't, because there has to be another budget-eating battle for next season.
Grey hair but no wrinkle and no aging. It almost feels like women are not allowed to be anything but attractive and sexually available for men....
Also yes, Hirst has ran out of ideas I think. Perhaps it is time to hire new writers and stop killing daughters and bring some characters back (LIKE THORUNN WHO COULD AVENGE ASLAUG BECAUSE ASLAUG FREED HER!!!!!!)
Hirst would try to deny any selfish or sinister motive behind Judith's Alfred worship. He writes and presents Judith's stated intentions at face value, and he wants viewers to accept them as such. He wants them to believe that Alfred is some half-Jesus because he was begotten in adultery by some saxon ex-monk who went viking. Hirst drinks the Alfred kool-aid and wants the viewers to drink it too, just like Judith made Aethelred drink her mushroom kool-aid.
To tell this show used to be great.... What a waste.
