Little hands were excellent at getting into small spaces, and usually all it took was a few spells to open even the most stubborn of locks. That made it nearly impossible to keep Kara out, and like the most determined of raccoons she did not leave until she had obtained her prize.
Kara had managed to scale the wall, and get in through the window, and now she was happily feasting. There were so many strange fruits, including one that was covered in brown fur and filled with a strange green meat. She liked that one a lot, and was searching the bowl for a second when the lights snapped on.
This time it was a risky mission, a bowl of fruit left in the middle of a table. But she knew this fruit was real, the human had replenished it recently, and Kara was hungry. Besides, if they didn't want it taken then why would they have such big windows, one that thieves could easily see into from the nearby trees.
Kara turned with a hiss, face covered in fruit pulp and a half-eaten kiwi clutched tightly in her grubby fingers. Hopefully the human could not see her in the corner, and was too sleepy to notice the muddy footprints on what had been nice clean counter-tops.
When she first heard the hiss, Mina yelped, sure that some kind of animal had gotten into her houseboat. Half hiding behind the door she peered through, the woman's eyes followed the trail of mud that lead from the window to her dining table where- there sat a little girl? Pushing the door open again tentatively, Mina couldn't help the burst of concern that flooded her when she realized that it wasn't an animal but a child.
"Hey..." She started in a gentle voice, staying where she was in the doorway for now. "It's ok, hun, I'm not gonna hurt you. Can I come talk to you?" Mina wondered, eyes scanning her slight form for any signs of blood or other injuries. "I can get you something else to eat if you're hungry..." She went on, finally entering the room fully and pulling the door shut behind her. "You came in through there, right?" He gaze directed towards the window where the mud trail started, hoping the girl wouldn't try to dart back out through it.
Kara had been absolutely starving, enough so that she had broken into one of those floating home things. It had been terrifying, to go out onto the water, but the rewards were worth it…and yet now she was stuck. No way to escape, not without going over the water again, something she really didn’t want to try. Not when faced with a human that was not being too hostile, even after she had broken into their lair and stolen their food.
At the question she gestured to her own throat, shaking her head slightly before gesturing to her ears and nodding. She could listen, but could not talk, and that was something the human would have to accept…because there was no other alternative.
With that settled she shoved another bit of fruit into her mouth, teeth seeming slightly too sharp as they snapped shut, slicing through the skin of another kiwi. Dark brown eyes did not even blink as she watched, waiting for the human to make the first move.
