Dream dressing gown, you say? What colour?? Dressing gown inspiration pics??

A. Dark green. I want to do embroidery on it, but I can't decide if I want it to be lighter green or silver. Whatever color it is, that'll be the lining color (silk).

B. inspiration! don't know if I can find it again, but there's one tan wool princess-line 1880s dressing gown/housedress/robe/whatever that has monochrome embroidery and I absolutely love it.

This isn't it, but that's definitely the vibe (c. 1879; sold online at Antiquedress.com some years ago). I like the more fitted look, as opposed to some of the looser dressing-gowns of the period. it looks cozier and more suitable for going out of the house to do my laundry, get the mail, etc.

same era. this one's in the Peabody-Essex Museum, just up in Salem. let Marzi examine pls???

Could you do a post on 18th century mourning & funerals? I see tons of that kind of imagery with 19th century stuff, but I've never seen a single image of an 18th century funeral, or even of 18th century people in a graveyard. And aside from some hair jewelry and a couple of portraits and fashion plates depicting mourning, I haven't seen much about 18th century mourning fashion either.

I have read about it in a couple books, so I’ll take a look and write a long long post about it!

Right now there is a movement to get away from the popular method of burial (pump body full of chemicals, put in giant expensive metal box, put giant box in a more giant concrete box) and be more eco-friendly the way things used to be. 

The problem is that everyone is used to being embalmed, and all the fancy trappings help keep some of the formaldehyde out of the ground. The fancy trappings also make the graveyard easier to mow because the ground doesn’t settle. People are also terrified of dead bodies not being encased in stuff, as if there were some plague of coyotes digging up severed limbs and running around with them in the past. So cemeteries keep their rules and their money.

There are very few cemeteries in the area that will allow you to just put a dead body in a wooden coffin and put it into the ground. And the ones that do are often only usable by town residents, or have their own regulations attached for aesthetic or eco-friendly purposes, like not allowing markers, or only having markers flush with the ground (again, lawn mower drama is a thing).

Like, being dead is hard.

@earlgraytay But I would never say mean things about your stitching! I feel ok complaining about the mask because it's something someone made for a customer, and the wonky seam is Right There on his Face! I'll only ever criticize people's personal projects if they ask for constructive criticism
