Vincent P. was born in 1979 in Paris. He is one of the founding members of Le Gros Monsieur, the enigmatic artist collective based in Paris known for giving away souvenirs. Books and zines published by Le Gros Monsieur are available at Yvon Lambert and Galerie du Jour (Paris) and Printed Matter (New York). Embarrassing Sexy Time...
I was over at Vincent's house and got to meet two of his friends for this first time (we had just started dating). Well Vincent and I left to go back to his room and yeah sexy time ;)
ALL I HEAR IS, "VINCENT I'M HOME". OMG HIS MOM WAS HOME.
I hopped off the D so fast....and ran to the closet. I was so embarrassed. Vincent walked out and I didn't hear any yelling and he came back to the room and told me his mom wanted to talk to me..
I was mortified...I put pants back on and started to walk out of his room and all I see is HIS TWO FRIENDS ON THE COUCH JUST HOLDING BACK LAUGHTER and I turned the corner and saw his Mom and I was apologizing for disrespecting her home and she was making jokes at me and then said "I've been knowing you two were having sex" I basically just melted into the couch and buried my face into the cushions and Vincent was like "MOM CAN YOU AT LEAST LET ME FINISH"
AND EVERYBODY IN THE LIVING ROOM LAUGHED.
And they were laughing because VINCENT WAS SERIOUS.
And then the boys made fun of me because I was so loud.
The embarrassment came from every direction.So...I did NOT let Vincent finish.

Paige and Jocelyn, how do you guys deal with the fact that at SOME point, your SO's will be getting deployed? It's hitting me in the face tonight that my Infantryman will soon deploy. It scares the hell out of me and it's keeping me from sleeping.. Help please?
Even though Vincent is in a deployable unit and he’s in Oki so if anything were to happen in Asia his unit is the first to head out, I don’t let it bother me because he isn’t’ deploying right now. Does that make sense? I don’t deal with the fact he’s going to be deploy at some point because I can’t stress myself out about something that hasn’t even happened.
I am the queen of stressing out…my anxiety plays a toll on my body to the point I break down and get sick. For years, I’ve been learning how to medically/non-medically cope with stressful situations and how I can overcome everyday tasks. But I cannot deny that sometimes the idea of him getting deployed comes into my mind and tries to eat me up. But I can’t let the future eat me up and take me away from the present. Whenever I feel myself getting very anxious I say a prayer and use breathing techniques I learned from doing yoga to help calm me down.
Aside from my personal remedies, my family helps me out too, along with Shay and other close friends. It’s all about creating a positive support system. Having people close to me who have gone through this experience and can help me cope has made a positive impact on me. But even though my mom and Nana can give me advice, and I can recall on how I’ve coped with my Dad and Stepdad deploying, nothing really prepares you for actually going through it. And like I said, I can’t worry myself about something that hasn’t even happened.

Damn. I can't believe that Vincent and I are approaching the ONE YEAR MARK. As in...we have been APART from each other for an entire year.
Joce, how did you deal with Vincent being in Okinawa?
Honestly I just take it day by day.
When Vincent first got his orders, it was a hard pill to swallow. I couldn’t imagine not physically being able to see him for over an entire year but at the same time, we had been very fortunate to make as many trips as we did to see each other while he was stateside. I guess that was my own coping mechanism: I couldn’t change the situation and the fact he was leaving, but I could change my outlook on the situation. :)
It took us a good couple of weeks if not more to adjust to the time difference and getting settled. But now that I’m busy with schoolwork, finishing up to graduate, and wedding planning, I sure know how to keep busy! I also look forward to weekends now more than ever. It’s nice to have uninterrupted time with Vincent…unless he has duty.
I also avoided having a countdown. I don’t need a daily reminder that I am 365+ days away from seeing him again. Now that we have set a wedding date, I have a countdown lol. I know that once we reach the 1 year mark, it will feel like time is going faster until we see each other.
And I go to Shay for everything. I’m so blessed to have a best friend like Shay. Shay has already experienced her fiancé go through the Okinawa assignment AND currently go through another overseas assignment. She and Rich give me hope. Without her advice and comfort, I’d be pretty lost.
