Alaskan sourdough starter batch two! This was our carryover starter from last week’s vintage Alaskan Sourdough pancake recipe. This week, we let it rise for 24 hours in the greenhouse where it was a cozy 78 degrees. It’s definitely a bit fluffier in consistency this go around. 😊We have such high hopes that this sourdough starter will continue for decades to come just like Aunt Patti’s sourdough escapades in the 1970s and 1980s. #fingerscroseed Find the recipe on the blog! . . . . . #sourdoughstarter #sourdoughbaking #vintagerecipes #vintagebaking #sourdough #sourdoughpancakes https://www.instagram.com/p/CpLDr_DOq_h/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
It’s pancake Sunday! Over on the blog, you’ll find this vintage recipe for Alaskan Sourdough Pancakes made with a homemade sourdough starter. 🫐 It comes from the 1960s-era Kansas kitchen of Ada Lou Roberts of Rose Lane Farm, who was a go-to baking expert in the mid-20th century. 💜 This is our first blog post that comes with a sensitivity warning so please take caution as you read more about Ada Lou’s life and the tragedy that occurred during her childhood. . . . . #pancakes #sourdoughpancakes #sourdoughstarter #alaskansourdough #vintagebaking #homemadepancakes #farmhouserecipes https://www.instagram.com/p/Co2eMdLO7WG/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
There’s a new batch of really old cookbooks coming to the shop soon that have so much character and history. This one was published in 1912 and features the most beautiful illustrations and cooking splatters and stains. We bet this stylish fruit pudding was the star of the holiday dessert table back in the early 20th century! 🌲 . . . . . #fruitpudding #antiquecookbook #vintagebaking #oldcookbook #holidaydesserts #antiquekitchen #cocoapowder https://www.instagram.com/p/CmKNZk4O6dc/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Here we are on the outskirts of Autumn, with a 1930s baking book and a bag full of local peaches. Did you know that Clabber Girl Baking Powder is one of the oldest American brands? 🍑 It has been a kitchen staple since 1899. In the early years, C.G. gained momentum by customer reviews, word of mouth recommendations, and by creative advertising like offering homeowners a free can if they’d put a Clabber Girl sign on their fence post. They also gave butchers special branded tape wit their logo on it to secure fresh cut meat packages and offered recipe booklets like this one offered free of charge to any home baker who requested one. 123 years later and Clabber Girl can now be found in over 40 countries around the globe. Clearly, the tape and the fence posts did their job:) 🧡 . . . . . #clabbergirl #bakingpowder #vintagebaking #1930skitchen #bakinghistory https://www.instagram.com/p/ChSU6GNuDym/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
Our most favorite thing to celebrate over 4th of July weekend is Lady Liberty and all the people that she has welcomed to our American shores. She’s also the subject of our most favorite recipe to make over the holiday. This vintage Bavarian cheesecake has been passed down through the family of Frederic Bartholdi who sculpted the Statue of Liberty. It was his mom, Charlotte who became the model for Lady Liberty herself. Beloved, just like the statue, this is by far one of our most popular vintage recipes on the blog. Cream cheese based with a vanilla wafer crust, it a delicious dessert best served cold right from the fridge. Read the whole story about the Bartholdi family and their delicious recipe over on the blog. A quick link for Bartholdi’s Bavarian Cheesecake can be found in the recipe section. . . . . . . #fourthofjulyweekend #statueofliberty #cheesecake #fourthofjulyfood #vintagebaking #vintagerecipes #ladyliberty https://www.instagram.com/p/CferxQYOoBF/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
