Happy Friday! I realised this week as I was rearranging my book case AGAIN, that I never posted a review of Overland by Graham Rawle! Set in 1942 during the Second World War, Hollywood set maker George Godfrey is hired by an American aircraft factory to make the Lockheed factory vanish from sight. The plan is to build a town, passible as an everyday American suburb, as an illusion for the enemy who fly overhead. However, the greater the illusion, the more people start to believe it might be real… . I thoroughly enjoyed this book. After doing some research, I discovered that this is based on true events! The story is fantastic and interesting but the reading of the physical book really added to the experience! Let me see if I can explain… Most (western) books are created as a vertical object, the writing going from left to right, weaving its way down each page. However, Overland is created horizontally, with two stories split between the verso and recto pages. The verso page followed the ‘OVER’ story, set above the factory, and the recto page told the ‘UNDER’ story, of the people working in the factory. As the story progressed, the more the story shifted between the two settings. I expected to be confused by the shifting story but it flowed amazingly well. It is a very, very clever book, both the story and the physical book working together for an enhanced reading experience!! I thoroughly enjoyed it! . #overland #hollywood #vintagebooks #vintageinthewild #grahamrawle #bookworm #bibliophile #bookish #fullybooked #booklife #booksbooksbooks #booklover #bookgeek #booknerd #lovebooks #instabooks #bookreview #bookblogger #booknerdigans #booksofinstagram #bookaholic #lovebooks #instabooks #bookreview #bookblogger #bookaholic #bookobsessed #friyay #helloweekend (at Liverpool) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bp9JhZ7HFvy/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1k2p5bncp4zsr
