★ What would they be if they were born in a different time?
I’m taking this to mean in the past/our present time.
Violet would probably be a lot more stable a person, since the Syndicate and Nanotrasen wouldn’t exist. Her father may or may not be as rich and powerful as he is in the space future. It really depends. He wouldn’t be able to do stuff with bluespace like he does in the present (future) day, but he’s smart enough to make a fortune in some other scientific field.
Assuming the kokiyg didn’t have space travel 540 years ago, Lazarus, Meryl, and August would all be on whatever the kokiyg home planet is. No telling how close they’d be to each other. August would get along really well with Lazarus if they knew each other; she has a soft spot for sensitive guys. I’m vague on the details of what the planet is actually like, so I wouldn’t be able to tell how growing up there would affect them.
Lazarus would be less shy, though, growing up around other kokiyg instead of a bunch of humans. Depending on what level of transportation was present there back then, Lazarus’s mom might or might not travel as much as she does canonically. She’d be just as lost in her work as she is normally, though.
★ Regrets
Violet Wheeler:
Honestly, it would be easier to list what Violet doesn’t regret. But the main one is definitely running off to join the Syndicate, since the majority of her problems now can be traced to that, and knowing what she does now she wouldn’t have done it.
Lazarus Prosperi:
Not making more friends when he was in school. Granted, it wasn’t really his fault, since he was bullied pretty badly by a few assholes and otherwise never really fit in, which caused him to avoid social interaction with other people for a very long time. He still sort of blames himself for it, though.
August Finlay:
Although she’s pretty competitive about science, sometimes she wishes she had gotten into something more artsy instead, like music. She feels like it’s too late to back out.
After recent kerfuffles over succession and disownery, who is the current heir to Percival's whaling empire? And what's his connection with Lazarus?
Currently, Violet is the heir, if only because she’s no longer officially with the Syndicate, and the only other option is Demetrius. Violet and Percival have made some… rocky amends because of that, to say the least.
The Wheelers have never heard of Lazarus, although it’s possible that Percival has met his mother before. After all, they’re both rather well-known.
If Lazarus, Violet, and Meryl were all trapped on an island, what are the odds of their escape and how would they go about doing so?
Oh boy. This is a complex question, which means I’ll have to break out ye olde shift key for once.
Lazarus is interesting, because although he has no experience with like… doing any sort of nature stuff, he does have extensive knowledge of making stuff do things, so he could probably rig up some MacGyver-level shit if he stayed alive long enough. He’d certainly be a huge asset, although maybe not with the more physical stuff.
Violet would be the most useless for this sort of situation. She was born and spent most of her life in a city. Her planet is almost entirely covered in similar urban places. And she’s used to a life of luxury. It’s not like she’d be much help out there. Hopefully she’d have some sort of sciency gadgets on hand, or materials that she could use to build a robot or something.
Meryl is fairly athletic and muscular, so she’d be good for all of the more physical stuff, like building shelter and starting a fire and stuff. She’d also probably waste a lot of time showing off to the others and generally not wearing any clothes. She is the fucking strong.
Do any of your characters have Wario-dimension counterparts?
violet has marigold scuttler, who is seiga’s character. i think that counts? she’s basically like an inversion of violet - extremely happy at all times, and probably concealing some sort of murderous intent
If a changeling absorbed Violet and got her memories, what would it think of them?
violet is basically a clusterfuck of conflicting emotions and inner demons. basically, it would take a serious effort to sort through them all and make sense of them, especially since memories aren’t usually linear
Does Violet really believe that she's a good person?
she’s trying to be one. she’s always been motivated by the desire to be a hero, the person who will end nanotrasen’s capitalistic grip on the world. she experiences a genuine amount of anguish at the fact that she often acts impulsively and hurts other people.
they were right when they said she was breathing underwater; out of place, all the time, in a world that wasn’t hers to take
