One of my favorite ways to practice #violinshifting is to omit the note before each shift and play as if the composer had written the passage this way. Omitting these notes temporarily trains the shift to arrive on time and smoothly. It also organizes the underlying shifts within each run so the first finger knows exactly how far it needs to go. Both of the shifts demonstrated are diminished 7ths which sound like major 6ths, so the fingers will form a measured whole step or two half steps across this interval. ~swipe left~ 2) Now practice the performance fingering with shifting up the A string. Sing the shift destination note out loud before playing to ensure it is present in the mind. ~swipe left~ 3) Performance version with #expressive fingering shifting on the A string. Many players will choose not to shift on these notes, which may me more in line with period performance practice.
