My personal comparison of two different endometriosis medications.

I was on Visanne for 2 months and had

•Spotting. Bled for 18 days straight after 3 days of spotting

•way worse back pain

•depression and anxiety from them fighting with sertrazine

•Migrain with aura +left arm and left side of face going numb. Heart palpitations and slurred speech

•abdominal pain, ovary bursting feeling

•brain fog, pure stupidity. Extreme confusion. "I'm lost!? Where am I!? Where was I going!?"

•swollen ankles, swollen painful breasts

•nausea

•dry spots!!!! Throat, collarbone, neck, face, lower back and butt

•hot flashes!!!

•very low sex drive + intimate dryness. Unbearable and depressing. But hey sex doesn't hurt now...

•insomnia + fatigue worse than before

•crazy fucking dreams. To much.

•Hot flashes

I've been on Orilissa for 3 months now and had

•hot flashes

•night sweats

I know not everyone's bodies are the same but holy fuck... I don't wish visanne on anybody. I was ready to throw down with my gynecologist.

Today is the day.

Today is the day I was officially diagnosed with Endometriosis and I’m so overwhelmed. I’ve been crying tears of relief and sadness all afternoon, I’ve been an emotional wreck texting my best friend but oh my god it feels so good to finally have answers and a treatment plan. I choked up with my doctor when I thanked her for taking my concerns seriously and just believing me.

I’m going to be starting Visanne tomorrow which I’m a little nervous about because apparently it stops your periods? I’m going to do a little more research and talk to the pharmacist about all of this though. After being in so much pain all the time I’m so excited to finally have a treatment plan in place and to start getting everything managed. I’m so grateful to my doctor she’s so amazing and to my Best friend who has been putting up with my emotional ass. Seriously shout out to @aeviternal-wonders for being the most amazing best friend ever, I love you so much 💛

Hi fam,

I'm a few years into this endo crap now. I've done excision, I've done Visanne for 3 years (worked for 2 years but caused MASSIVE weight gain), other birth control, etc. In August, my specialist gave me a Mirena IUD in the hopes more localized hormones would be more effective in managing my pain. It worked great... until this week. I had a nasty virus, combined with some intense work-related stress, so I don't think it's a coincidence that I also had my first endo flare up since getting the IUD. It was my usual flare pain, nothing abnormal. What's got me worried is that since then, for about 7 days now, I've been in consistent pain that is more intense than usual and gets worse by about 5pm onwards.

The Mirena seemed to be working really well until something triggered the endo. I have a follow-up appointment with my specialist, so I will hold off on calling him until then. I'm just curious if anyone else has had similar issues, or if maybe the endo is just reacting to the virus and I need to wait it out. I know we aren't doctors, I'm just curious.

My life is way too unstable right now to add another lap into the mix, but I'm starting to think that might be what's next on the list...

My body insists on still having a strong hormonal cycle despite the medical industry's best attempts to crush it with synthetic pregnancy hormones. On a good day, the medication that stops the physical signs of my menstrual cycle just leaves me feeling depressed. On a bad day, it can cause my poor confused hormonal brain to come up with some spectacularly bad attempts at comfort. Last night my thoughts started running around fretting about how I was going to die a sad, lonely, old person. Shortly after that, good old brain pointed out that wasn't going to happen because I'm both in poor health and older than most of my friends and loved ones, so I'd most certainly die before them! Nothing to worry about! You tried your best, brain. I'm so sorry I can't stop taking the medicine that makes you like this.

Sorry it's been so long since my last update. I'm moving and working a ton and very low on spoons ATM so I've been spending my down time rewatching Harry Potter for the 57285th time instead of talking to all you wonderful people. HI WHY ARE YOU SO LOW ON SPOONS? Because I got frustrated and scared and rage quit Visanne cold turkey. For those of you who don't know/live in the states where it's not FDA approved, Visanne is a low dose hormone pill, the first of its kind to be specifically designed to manage endometriosis. It was working great for me up until about six months ago, where all my symptoms slowly started creeping back in. Last week, I basically rage quit. I was frustrated, waitlisted to see my specialist, and the side effects of this drug were proving to be not worth dealing with. So I quit instead of weening myself off and now I'm paying for it. There aren't many studies on the effects of coming off Visanne. I've been off for seven days and here's the hell I've gone through so far: Days 1-2: endo cramps. Twinges, stabs, cramping, etc. Days 3-4: migraines. Days 5-7: unrelenting nausea and bloating. Nauseous 24/7, really painful bloating every time I eat a spoonful (ha) of anything. Day 8 (today): continued nausea, pre-period cramps. Plus been super fatigued all week because my body is freaking the fuck out. Valuable lesson learned: never quit hormonal anything cold turkey. I'm deliberating taking a half a pill a day and then weening myself off but I'm worried now that I'm having period cramps, it might be too late. Who even knows? This entire week has just been a stark reminder that, no matter even if you humbly appreciate your good days and live them to the fullest, chronic illness is still going to come smack you back to bed eventually. It's also a bit frightening being able to find ZERO information online on what to expect now that I'm off these pills.
