The medieval core of the city still sits within 12th-century walls. Its old buildings, with windows bright with geraniums, are made of dark peperino, the local dark grey stone, contrasted here and there with the golden tufa rock of walls and towers.⁣ ⁣ Viterbo's San Pellegrino district is a place to get the feel of the Middle Ages, seeing how daily life is carried on in a setting that has remained practically unchanged over the centuries. V I T O R C H I A N O // Oggi ti porto in un bellissimo borgo medioevale in provincia di Viterbo, nel cuore della Tuscia. Tra i borghi meglio conservati e più belli del centro Italia. Un posto incantato che sorprende chiunque la visita. 🥾 Vitorchiano è un piccolo borgo arroccato su enormi massi di peperino, ovvero la caratteristica pietra lavica della zona dei Monti Cimini. Per questa sua caratteristica viene anche dato l’appellativo di “Borgo Sospeso”. 🏰 Il borgo è cinto da mura, torri e porte di accesso. A Piazza Roma, la piazza principale, vi è la torre dell’orologio alta 16 metri ed eretta originariamente a difesa del castello. 🌸 Il centro storico è piena di viuzze con case di pietra che ti fanno tornare indietro nei secoli. Sarà facile restare sorpresi da scorci pittoreschi, balconi fioriti e scalette esterne che conducono alle abitazioni. 🏘 Tra i vicoli di Vitorchiano incontrerai numerosi altri edifici medioevali di notevole bellezze, come la casa dove dimorò per un periodo Santa Rosa, la Casa della Strega, la Casa del Rabbino, la Casa del Vescovo e molte altre. 🗿 A Vitorchiano è collocata una scultura di Moai, uno dei rarissimi esistenti al mondo fuori dall’Isola di Pasqua.
