Chimpanzees are classed as Endangered on the IUCN Red List – numbers are decreasing because of habitat loss and fragmentation, killing for bushmeat and the infant pet trade and disease. They are also frequently caught in snare traps that are placed by poachers to trap other forest animals. Thanks to Ol Pejeta Conservancy’s private status it is able to offer night game drives, an activity not available in most national parks and reserves in Kenya. A night game drive offers visitors an opportunity to discover Ol Pejeta Conservancy ‘after hours’. Bushbucks are known to be very shy and will spend most of their time in thick vegetation. They are mostly active in the late evening and into the night as well as very early morning. By living in large herds and eating tall coarse grasses, Cape buffalo play a vital role in the ecology of the grasslands.
