Hey there! I'm interested in the game since it sounds like the original game was really good, but when you get it how do you put it through google translate, etc.? Thank you for your time!

There are several methods to translate a game (through google translate or other translation tools) but the easiest one I would say is Visual Novel Reader. 

You can get it, and the tutorial, here (written by Sakimichi).

There are of course other methods as well but I believe this is the easiest one? I personally use another method but what works for me might not work for you :) 

I can tell you other methods if you’re interested/think Visual Novel Reader isn’t working for you. 

Also, thanks for adding the note that you’re talking about Taisho Alice :) It doesn’t make a difference for this question, but it’s great that you’re going to support Primula by buying the original game in Japanese!

The Visual Novel Reader’s New Server

For those of you who haven’t been keeping up with the news of the Visual Novel Reader (VNR), it’s has been down for a while, but it’s back up now with a whole new server! You can find out more here. I’ve already uploaded my subtitles onto the server, so hopefully, they are accessible with the new version of VNR. I’ve also tried the new VNR with PPSSPP v0.9.8, and it’s working a lot better than before.

I haven’t been adding anything new to my translation projects recently, since I’ve been working on my own visual novel. But afterwords, I will be back to translating my favorite Japanese Visual Novels! They are near and dear to my heart.

Current state of my translation projects:

Black Wolves Saga -Last Hope- : ~20% complete

Shinigami to Shoujo: ~70% complete

Clock Zero ~Shuuen no Ichibyou~: ~15% complete

Watashi no Real wa Jujitsu Shisugiteiru: ~30% complete

Accessing BWS Translations when the VNR Sever is Down

So a few months ago when VNR first went down I thought that by downloading a cached version of the translations, it would show up on VNR as it was designed to do when the servers are down. But at the time I couldn’t get it to work. I also had someone test it out and they couldn’t get it to work either. However, I recently tried it again and managed to get it to work on my end. 

Here is what you have to do:

If you already have VNR installed, you need to download this file. This is a cached version that I have for BWS: Bloody Nightmare only. 

Go to the folder where you installed VNR. Then go to VNR > Caches > Subtitles > xml. 

Place the .xml file you downloaded into this folder. 

Turn off your internet connection/disconnect from your wifi/put your laptop in airplane mode. VNR seemed to pull up the cache quicker this way.

Run VNR and BWS. 

Start a new game and translations should appear. 

Earlier, I had tried loading from a save but that didn’t work for some reason but it worked once I started a new game like this. Then when I pulled up a save after starting a new game, the translations for the save file appeared. 

I also have a cache version of other games including another fully translated otome game called Sakuya. Most other visual novels are vastly incomplete. You can download that here.  Same steps as the above. 

I just wish I could’ve figured this out sooner. Thanks for being patient everyone! Remember to send your thanks to Siberia (bakemeats.tumblr.com) as she translated the vast majority of the game by herself. She’s also planning on a patch for this game so this problem won’t happen again. (It’ll be likely will since VNR hasn’t been updated in over a year).

VNR IS BACK!!! + UPDATE

Hello all,

I bring you good news! VNR IS NOT SHUT DOWN!!! It’s now completely fine as before. (I think it has been up since last Wednesday; sorry for the late notice lol. I’ve been very busy starting on making my own otome game using Ren’py in my recent free time.) I suppose the Sakuradite site just had a maintenance or something. But I’m overjoyed that user-generated user-generated subtitles and all the functions relating are working like usual. This means all my past translations have been saved and that I can continue translating BWS and Shinigami to Shoujo!! Yaaaaaaay!!!!! Check them out now if you haven’t, and feel free to give me feedback on my translation or your thoughts on the games in general :)

On another note, right now, I’m not sure what to prioritize: my otome game or my translations. Maybe I can juggle them both, but I’d much like to focus on one. The current plan is to continue working on my otome game enough that I can release a demo version. If there’s a lot of demand for me to keep working on it, then I’ll try to finish it and then work on translating BWS. If the demo turns out to be a flop, then I’ll put it on the back burner and concentrate on my translation projects. Black Wolves Saga -Last Hope- [VNR PPSSPP English Translations]

Hello all,

This is my first post! And my first big project debut is *drum rolls* BWS -Last Hope-! Since Black Wolves Saga -Bloody Nightmare- is fully translated now by orlandoblue, I’ve decided to begin translating Last Hope on the PPSSPP through the Visual Novel Reader (VNR). Some of the early parts of the game have already been translated by me. Currently, I’m working on Zara’s route. If you want to contribute to the translations as well, feel free to let me know. If you have some corrections for me, feel free to let me know, too. Otherwise, I’ll be adding more translations sporadically and posting updates whenever I can.

Watashi no Real wa Juujitsu Shisugiteiru: Side Project

So, I was supposed to be translating BWS Last Hope, but I was distracted with playing another otome game (it’s freeware, meaning you don’t have to pay; you just have to google) called “ Watashi no Real wa Juujitsu Shisugiteiru,” which translates to something like “My Real Life is Blossoming Too Well.” Anyway, in the process of playing it, I added to the previous translations and ended up translating most of Ayumu’s route through VNR. So, enjoy the subtitles if you choose to play the game. I recommend you do!

I have to say, at first, I thought the heroine in this game was somewhat irritating, but she quickly grew on me! And it helps that she’s very, very relatable, at least to me. By the end of Ayumu’s route, I have to say that she’s definitely one of the best heroines in otome games that I’ve ever come across. I have a lot of respect for her! Also, Ayumu is a cutie in the truest sense.

Well, I suppose he has his cool moments, too. *Don’t worry, this screencap isn’t really a spoiler.*

(I thought this was a slice of life kind of game??? What’s with this Code:Breaker turn of events?!)

Anyway, I’m thoroughly enjoying the game. It’s practically a parody of otome games! I will most likely translate Shun’s route in the near future, just as a small side project. As of now, I’ll be juggling between translating BWS and playing this game. Until next time!

Shinigami to Shoujo [VNR PPSSPP English Translations]

Hello all,

I'm happy to announce that I've translated over half of Shinigami to Shoujo (PSP) through VNR on the PPSSPP. Thus far, I've translated most of the common route, as well as Hinase, Kirishima (for his in particular, I've skipped some parts that were difficult to translate), and Tooya's route. The only routes I haven't touched on yet is Chiyo's route (which is mostly just Kirishima's route) and Ao's route. If you want to contribute to the translations, feel free to let me know. If you have some corrections for me, feel free to let me know, too. Otherwise, I'll be adding more translations sporadically and posting updates whenever I can.

I would also like to comment that Shinigami to Shoujo is one of the deepest (and longest) otome games I've ever played so far. The themes in this game are especially profound, and I quite enjoy the voice acting. All in all, I've been having a delightful time playing and translating this game. I encourage everyone to try this game out!

VNR Shut Down?

As some of you already know, the subtitles on VNR and its Sakuradite website are currently inaccessible. As for me, I can get VNR and the machine translation to run; however, the user-generated subtitles and all the functions relating to that are not working at all. I don’t know why that is, as I have no direct relation to its administrators, but I am doing my best to get to the bottom of this. I would be extremely sad if they suddenly decided to shut it down, because I found VNR to be an immensely helpful tool in translating, so much so that it has become necessary. Hopefully, its creators are just doing some maintenance or updating the software...but I wouldn’t bet on it.

Anyways, I’ll be sure to update if I find anything in regards to why VNR isn’t working. For now, I would suggest those who use it to keep an eye on this webpage. I hope the next update I bring on this topic will be one of good news!
