A return to color. More shooting with an eye towards negative space. Around mah hood in South Berkeley/North Oakland, aka "Bordertown." Started my digital photography fundamentals course this past weekend and love it. I have homework. I may use some of these shots for the assignment.
Nature in black and white. More playing around with positive and negative space here but also framing, shadows, and simply capturing neat wildlife. I've been playing with visual tension in color but have not been very satisfied with those photos yet. Color feels a bit distracting for me right now.
This past weekend I documented public spaces while running errands around downtown Oakland. More photoplay/practice/hw with visual tension. I'm really loving black and white photography. Unless otherwise captioned, the photos were taken at the Oakland Main Library.
Playing with visual tension. I had my first photography coaching session with a good friend last Sunday. I am so excited and grateful to have this opportunity to learn from Daria and improve my formal "eye"- the more structural aspects of my photos vs the narrative aspects. My homework this month is to take photos with particular attention to positive and negative space and the interplay between, or visual tension.
I went on an hour walk about in my hood as part of my trip to buy groceries and had some fun capturing these images. I also played with taking my photos in black and white to help me more easily "see" the forms and spaces in my images.
Thank you Daria for your coaching and thank you to M. for inspiring me to pick my camera up on the way out the door today :D
