"It is a rather fascinating book, you see. The vampires sparkle in the sunlight. Very poorly written and very insulting but... fascinating nevertheless. Have you read it?"
♔♚ Stefan woke up slowly, his grip tightening around the body he was holding. It was nice to feel so close to her. His eyes opened and he leaned his head up, getting a good look at her. It was funny how instantly he recognized Katherine. Had it been months previous he would've been confused as to why Elena was in his bed. Katherine had made sure his reason for returning to Mystic Falls was never fulfilled. Stefan's plan to fall in love with her doppelganger was short lived. But it was scary how easily he'd fallen back in love with the girl who'd stolen his heart back in 1864. His lips pressed against her forehead gently, his strong hands pulling her body closer as he turned on his side, keeping his grip on her. "Good morning, Katherine." His voice was a soft whisper, but it was loud enough to wake her up. His eyes connected with hers as they opened. Knowing that none of this was compulsion, knowing that this was all real now, that it had been real then. It made him actually happy.

The plan for the day; get up, get dressed, swear before God and everyone he loved to love one woman for the rest of his life, kiss the bride, eat some cake, and go on a honeymoon. Simple enough, right? People did it everyday. It really wasn't that complicated. Well, saying goodbye to bachelorhood wasn't the easiest thing in the world to do, but it had been worth it. For her. For Rose. He loved her, he would have given up every last thing he had if it meant they could be together. And all the while the thought never drifted from far from his mind; she's worth it.
Turns out, he was wrong.
While that might have been the plan, reality had been a whole different ball game. He'd gotten through some of it. His little brother Stefan, and long time best friends Ric and Enzo had come and gotten him that morning and the four them headed to the church to stuff themselves in suits they had practically been threatened into wearing. He went through all the motions greeting people and exchanging pleasantries. He walked up the aisle and waited until the wedding march played...
And then Rose's mother had appeared at the back of the church. All it took was the look on her face and he knew. She was gone. She wasn't going through with the wedding. Though the church interrupted in shocked whispers and awkward questions, Damon didn't stick around to answer them. With parting glances to his shocked groomsmen, Damon slipped out a side door, shedding his tie and jacket as he went. In seconds he was behind the wheel of his Camero, hitting the road with no destination in mind, stubbornly ignoring his packed bags in the backseat. Ready to go for a honeymoon he would never go on. He kept his eyes straight forward...well, he glanced away once to look down at his phone on the seat beside him. The screen flashed, making him glare.
New Voicemail From Rose.
Shaking his head, he turned his gaze back to the road...just time to see the woman walking on the side of the road that he probably would have hit if he didn't look up when he did. He should have just driven around her and continued on his way...but there was something about her...something about the determined way she moved, the tense set of her shoulders...he found himself slowing down and rolling his window down, curious to know why someone looked so murderous on the outskirts of a sleepy little town.
"You might want to pick a different road to storm down; small towners are notorious for bad driving."
