Chapter one…. In August 1999 I had a resumption of FBI building lobby in New York City and I met interesting people who were going to Canada that night and I went with them as I stood in my tuxedo I had a driver license in my back pocket and $40. So I went to Canada, to Indian reservation where I spent two weeks. It was a huge international gathering of aboriginal chefs from all over the world. I met many amazing people 😍 I met a comedian from the Bronx from New York City🤣 and he came to my art studio on the barge in Chelsea later and he performed for my guests at many occasions. “To be an artist is a destiny. Acrylic on canvas size 36“ x 42“ executed 2003 2014. #Available This painting was repainted hundreds of times and it’s very heavy. Not with sand and other textures as I usually use but with many layers of paint. it was a series of paintings done in the period of six months and then “ improved “ over the years. mostly landscapes and I sold all of them except this one. Thank God I still have it. It shows the infinite richness of life, although it might look like a simple landscape but every square inch has millions of colors and diversified elements from barely visible under the microscope to the size of a coin. I like it when my paintings are intricate and rich. And when you look from close by you start seeing things you didn’t realize from 10 feet away. just like looking under the grass and seeing ants and other bugs for the first time. Then you realizing there is another universe in there. I just described a scene from a movie by genius Russian Director Andrey Tarkovski. The title of the movie is “ The Mirror” I recommend it. there are few Russians with my first name, just like mine and they are Artists, creators. They all left a mark in the Russian culture and are admired for more than 1000 years.😱 one of the greatest Renaissance artist was Andrey Rublev. When I heard the news of the devastating fire at Notre Dame I was initially sad, but my feelings quickly turned to positive determination. Yes, it is a loss, and yes the famous cathedral will likely never be the same. I had the privilege to visit the great church in 2000 while I was in college. Places of worship are some of the most stunning works of art and architecture humanity has created. Even for an agnostic like myself, you can't help but feel there is something more in the universe than our earthly bodies when you visit them. I am also reassured by the fact that no one was hurt in the blaze. People are hurt or killed all over the world every day by the dark side of humanity. The damage of such a magnificent building is no doubt disheartening. But let's remember it is ultimately just a building. The devastation of human life is a far greater thing to mourn. It's a grand gesture by a rich few to donate to the landmark's restoration. Imagine what we could do for the poor and homeless and oppressed and abused among us with all that money. So too, the brave firefighters and volunteers who risked their lives to save the relics and artwork inside. What if that much devotion was dedicated to the cause of saving those who needlessly perish every day? Lastly, I am encouraged by remembering Notre Dame, and the people of France have endured many such debilitating events and managed to resurrect themselves and their spirit. Notre Dame has been vandalized, artwork destroyed, riddled with bullets and used as a store house. It's built on the ruins of previous churches. As the proverbial phoenix it will rise from the ashes again, a symbol of the resilience not only France, but of the people of the world.
