Descendants 3 question; because i don't have the fourth book/i lowkey don't want to read it but
was VK day ever actually like...explained????? like why did they do it the way they did? like in my interlude fic rn I've but some non-canon lore into it by the council making Ben have Guardians for the vks (because they were underage when they came to Auradon and needed someone to ‘claim’ them if anything went wrong) and they pull off a new group then the council is like “wait you cant do that?!” And Bens like “why not its exactly what i did last time?” and im trying to figure out exactly what the council does to turn ‘transferring vks from the isle to Auradon simply by invitation’ to ‘vks have to fill out applications, get parental permission, and a bunch of other bullshit’ but im working on it.
BUT again...was VK day ever explained? cuz as far as we know originally Ben just chose the C4 to come to Auradon (possibly in the same way dizzy was invited at the end of D2 it just went to the parents instead of the kids) and they like...just went? like yeah they had their parents approval (semi approval? like Maleficent was forcing Mal to go and EQ was like ‘lets get rid of the unibrow before you leave while Cruella and Jafar were like ‘yeah no we need them to be our slaves’)which...with that...maybe to bring VKs over Ben/the vks needed their parents permission the entire time??? so maybe the new vks having to get written permission for vk day is not a new thing? which does make it a little less...bad? (idk but considering most of the vks are under the age of 18 it makes sense for them to HAVE to have their parents permission to leave the isle/leave their “care” in my rewrite as long as someone in Auradon is a guardian for the vk they can just leave n shit because technically they already have ‘parental permission’)
okay that was a whole ass rant but yeah was vk day ever explained? i might have to read the vk auradon guide book again to see if its explain at all in there but still
Timeline of VK Day Hate
I’m just making this cause I kinda find it funny that VK Day just....keeps getting worser with the movie and each bit of side merch for the movie that basically makes it clear Auradon/the core four and Ben are just fucking clowns:
I’ve been think about the vk day applications and I can’t seem to understand why they needed the kids thumbprints the kids gave them their names favorite colors parents names what their houses look like and their birthdays what could vks/Ben want with these kids thumbprints is auradon putting them into some identification system or something?
Us talking about how other characters should get attention besides mal along with good development good story lines good ships while Also saying how HORRIBLE the concept of Vk day is:
Disney Channel not listening to us:
Ben: I never thought of it that way. That I might have hurt the people I didn’t choose.
Uma: Yeah, well-
Ben: I know! I’ll keep the groups that are being welcomed into Auradon just as small, but this time make it an application process.
Uma: Did you just say-
Ben: That way when most of them don’t get picked, they’ll blame themselves instead of me.
Uma:
Uma: Yeah, wand or no wand, I’m feeding you to the sharks.
It’s Good to Be Bad? Since when?
This has probably been said, but does anyone think the concept of VK Day is messed up? From my understanding they have all these villain kids fill out applications to get a chance to go to Auradon and they’ll end up only accepting... 4 of them. Meaning there are going to be several disappointed children still living in poverty until when? The next VK Day?
Uh idk about you guys but when Evie said she had a list of kids she thought should come to Auradon this is not how I expected it to be executed. NONE of those children deserve to be on the Isle so what’s the point of having them fill out forms? The Core Four were able to go Auradon without that. I understand not wanting a bunch VKs swarming into Auradon at once so instead they should have a random selection process that allows a few VKs to be integrated into Auradon society bi-weekly or monthly to minimize the amount of children that will be stuck on the Isle for so long. Perhaps they can even set up accommodations for them on the Isle in the meantime.
I hope VK Day is mentioned as an example of how dense and unaware the Auradonians (and the Core Four) are and not written off as a good, sensible thing. The Core Four should really know better. This whole thing just seems like a way to piss more people off, not make them happy.
