What do you think?
Are these the Descendants versions of those shows, or did they just use the titles for a reference?
Similar to my thoughts to my thoughts about the barrier coming down. I think it would have good if the movies had actually SHOWN how much Ben had planned for the VK's to be in auradon.
Like did he have any safety measures in place? For everyone including the VK's. So they are not accused of something they genuinely didn't do. As harshly as Audrey says it her concerns about the VK's are somewhat valid.
Because technically although they were pushed into it the VK's DID come with a plan to cause harm to auradon…
Did he have plans for if the VK's acted up? How much were they monitored? Did they have a curfew? Or ankle bracelets that alerted Ben to them leaving campus without it being cleared?
Because if that had been the case Ben would have known that the VK's had been to the museum the first night they were there.
Were there different levels of what would happen if they did something wrong? (the harshest being been sent back to the Isle) Was this explained to the VK's on their first day?
Because the way the movies play it really seems like Ben had no safety plans in place. He was just placing a HEAP of BLIND TRUST, in the hope the VK's would just behave and go to bed like good kiddies
If it wasn't for the fact that Mal and the others came to have reasons to LIKE auradon...Ben's program would have gone exactly the way his parents had feared...
And we are led to believe by the movies that Ben just DOESN'T THINK of that.
On the isle, if someone openly wear clothes from a kingdom that is not viewed favorably there (ex; Auradon city, Auroria, Cinderellasburg) then at best they'll be teased & mocked relentlessly for - a while - depending on how they act about it. At worst- stabbed or punched for it. This is if the name of the kingdom or something else that clearly indicates its from there is visible. So, if you sew a different material overtop the words, or remove them and put other fabric in its place, or wear something else overtop - that's fine even if it's pretty clear what you did.
On the other hand, openly wearing clothing from a kingdom that is looked upon somewhat favorably (Ex; China, Agrabah, Corona) then they might get some side-eyes if they are not from that kingdom, but otherwise they'll be left alone.
Auradon Boy Dolls (Part 1):
I do wish Disney Descendants was made by a different streaming service. I think it's such a good idea but not explored to it's potential.
The isle- is obviously where VKs and their parents live and obviously many of them know or like that they are bad but Auradon isn't explored enough as a dystopian Utopian Kingdom.
Because all the Villains are gone right? That says so much about Auradon:
"The people that are obsessed with proper, goodness and the idea that why would need magic anymore? They've modernized! The villains are gone. "
Does this apply to everything? Because people are still rude there but it isn't exactly acknowledged and you cannot take every bad person away. Bad people exist eve. Like does it apply to everything bad? Abuse, assault, robbery even cheating ECT ? Because how could such an act happen when the villains are gone?
Because that idea is so interesting to me. The isle of the lost where they are openly bad, knowingly bad but it's normal because they are villains. It's openly acknowledged that this is what bad people do.
Compared to that of Auradon where everyone is basically gaslighting you because how could such a villainous act happen here? And the bad people hide here easier because why would they actually be bad? Where the king could easily send you to the isle for the insinuation that someone could do something so villainous, it's slander, creating panic in such a good safe kingdom. Someone's money laundering? Here in Auradon? Hmm are you quite well sir? Child abuse? Such a thing doesn't occur here! "You be patient with your father, You have no idea what he went through!!"
Ben constantly rewriting or removing laws because they are outdated and getting pushed back because of tradition. Auradon kids seeing their parents go through traumatic responses and sometimes violent episodes. Auradon parents pushing for perfection, goodness and tradition because of the threats they faced didn't allow them too. Magic being more taboo so many never learn to use what they have, trained to do what their parents could do or even acknowledge they have it - where it's an animal side like the beast or basic magic. Auradon kids trying to be perfect consistently, drowned in public appearances- because they have titles they are responsible for- constantly under public scrutiny in lives where the public opinion means everything especially to their parents and council members. And all the issues that can create for kids in a pressure perfect society.
Vks: do what they want, be the worst, the only rule is don't be the weaker link and whatever way their parents "raised" them as.
Ask: follow societal demands, perfection and everything that entails, be whatever their parents demanded. Never relaxed.
Vks going between the two environments realizing Auradon may be better but isn't by much.
Ugh, Auradon could be SO interesting.
In my descendants au: Jafar being sultan of the isle is official in Auradon. This happened in 1998, around 4 years after the villains were all sent to the isle, shortly before Ben was born. What happened is that Jafar mailed a letter/form to them (through Yen Sid- since it was a couple years before the isle’s mailing system was fully established- who really only did that cause he was certain it would be denied) stating how he was running the isle, and was requesting it to be made official in Auradon. However the form & letter were in Arabic, which neither Beast or Belle could read or write, so they decided to just mail it to Princess Jasmine and Prince Aladdin, figuring that they could read it & then sign it if they decided it was ok.
However, Aladdin and Jasmine weren't told by them, or anyone else, that the two of them didn't know what it said - they figured they had gotten a translator or something to read it for them, or could read it enough to get the general idea. So, they thought the two just sent it to see if they were okay with it or not. With that in mind, they filled out & signed it and mailed it back to Beast, and he put it with the rest of the documents related to the isle.
And it would not be brought up again until sometime around when Ben was about to become king or shortly afterwards.
