S. By JJ Abrams, but more specifically Ship of Theseus by VM Straka is so reminiscent of Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness.
I’ve been slowly working my way through the S. Book (and for those who don’t know, S. Is the actual name of the book, Ship of Theseus is not a “real” story in this world. Its a story within a story) and it’s been bugging me and bugging me and then I got to chapter 7 and it started clicking.
I can go into heavier detail later (and I likely will), but hmm. “The horror, the horror,” indeed.
Time to crack this thing open. There are inserts which can fall out, so I have left this sealed in the case until now.
This book is a mystery, or so I believe. This looks like it will be interesting....
If you have never heard of this book, look it up right now. Right. Now. I keep forgetting that it’s fictional, and I feel like I’m in the middle of a gigantic conspiracy. Occasionally I must remind myself that no, my life is not in danger. If you enjoy forgetting that what you are reading is fictional, I beg you to read Ship of Theseus by J. J. Abrams and Doug Dorst.
S.
"we create stories to help us shape a chaotic world, to navigate inequities of power, to accept our lack of control over nature, over others, over ourselves."
- Ship of Theseus by V.M. Straka
How did you read S?
Read all of The Ship Of Theseus and went back to annotations from the start.
Read a chapter, read the annotations, repeat.
I know I can do what I please, but I want to know the strat. If you feel strongly one way or the other let me know.
Ship of Theseus by V. M. Straka (S. by J. J. Abrams & Doug Dorst)
What is he making, line by line, page by page? [...] He cannot say. But somehow he feels as if he and Sola and they are working on one thing, a thing that reaches everywhere. His task is to keep putting words on paper, letting the tiny revelations accrete.
