Ava/Simon swap AU where Ava gets captured by Eden and is sent down to the Blood Ocean as a sacrifice rather than for any scientific gain… Walk with me.

Simon, as someone higher up in Eden’s religious hierarchy, would be facilitating her penance. But eventually he’d throw it all away to save her because he knows deep down this creature is not looking for a sacrifice. Does he actually manage to save her? Probably not. The same way Ava couldn’t save him when it was his turn.

When she's captured, Ava has already sent several convicts to their deaths in the name of research.

But these cultists are crazy! How could they send people out here for a fairytale penance, wasting life for no real gain at all! No new knowledge! Nothing!

"Is it really so different?" The creature, in a voice that is familiar but she cannot match a name to, asks her. Afterall, punishment is punishment.

Could there be anything more upsetting to her than the idea that her research could be just as meaningless as prayers to a boogeyman. She cannot accept that.

Maybe she manages to find the information Simon found and releases it to the surface. Maybe someone can find it and use it... Maybe Eden will use it for spare parts. Who knows? All we can do is hope.
