So one time I went to the 2013 VMAs. And here's what happened.
By some crazy miracle I got a pit ticket to the VMAs this year. Literally the coolest thing that has ever happened to me.
(this paragraph is a mini pointless rant. feel free to skip it) There was a lot of waiting around beforehand. And there was a group of girls infront of me who were talking about One Direction so naturally I started eavesdropping. They were talking about how they met Harry and Liam a few times while in NY. I'm sorry but it should be a law that if you meet the boys 4+ times you need to take a step back and help other fans meet them. Literally the only thing I want to do is meet One Direction. Say hey I love you guys, you mean the world to me, thank them for everything, get a picture and go. That.is.all.i.want. Sorry its just all week they've been so close, but so far and I'm getting discouraged. Ok. Done with that. On to the good stuff.
So after about 3 hours, we were finally escorted into the Barclays Center. I was on the floor all the way in the back which actually ended up being so much better than I expected. I saw all the celebrities taking their seats at the beginning, Ed, Emile Sande, Ellie Goulding, people from Girl Code. I was on the opposite side of the floor so it was hard to see but I was able to tell who was who. And I was on high alert for One Direction, and when I didn't see them in their seats right before the show started I had a feeling they would be onstage first.
Where I was standing at the back, the crowd had to make a path to let performers through to the stage. And there were so many people toward the front of the arena that it was pretty easy to get right up to the path. And let me tell you, when I saw One Direction getting ready to walk through the giant moonman's legs down the path to the stage, I was not okay. You can't see me in the footage they aired thank god because my jaw was basically on the floor and i probably looked like a freak but i was on Louis' side. I was a foot away from Louis Tomlinson. That was the closest I've ever been to any of them. IT WAS A RELIGIOUS EXPERIENCE. Like the pearly gates of heaven opened early for me or something. He looks even better in person and I don't know how that's possible. The scoop neck shirt and his sparkling blue eyes and the converse. It's probably a very good thing that I was physically frozen in awe. I couldn't even speak. I just stared. And started shaking. Starstruck was an understatement in my case. Then they got onstage, said their bit and took their seats.
I really couldn't tell you what happened during most of the show because I just stared at the boys in their seats 95% of the time. Not that I could really see much of the main stage anyway. Again I was across the arena from them so it was a little hard to see, but I managed well enough. They had some snacks. Louis looks so cute when he's eating all I could think of was when he ate nachos on stage recently and was all shifty eyed doing it. So cute. The only times I took my eyes away from there were during some of the performances and judging by all the gifs and videos that seems to be when all the good Harry/Louis moments happened of course so I'm a little sad I missed that. I saw Rihanna taking a picture with Harry. That was cute.
And then of course the Taylor fiasco. I made sure to watch the boys whenever she was mentioned or onstage just to see how they reacted. Harry was a gentleman and clapped like the classy guy that he is whenever she was mentioned. But when she won, and made that crack about who the song was for, my jaw dropped to the floor. Now I do not think Trouble was written about Harry because 1. I'm pretty sure she wrote it before they were "together" and 2. does she know that was a fake relationship or... I'm pretty confident it's about John Mayer or maybe even Martin Johnson. Who knows. But I do think she's milking it for all it's worth, playing it up that it's about Harry. That was so immature I can't even believe it. I paid close attention to Louis as well and saw that he didn't clap and just drank his beer so that brought a huge smile to my face. Couldn't see his facial expression too clearly from where I was but all the gifs and pictures of it that I saw later on did not disappoint.
Now onto NSYNC for a minute. My very first concert was NSYNC at Giant Stadium when I was 11. And I will never forget it. They were my first boyband obsession nothing in comparison to the way I am with One Direction right now but still Justin's performance was incredible. It was like the Justin Timberlake show. One Direction was really getting into it. I saw them singing along and standing up. Poor Liam must have been dying. So because of my position in the crowd they had to move us around a lot because when they brought in different stages for the performances. I don't know how this happened but I ended up being front row for NSYNC. Let me say that again because I don't believe it. I WAS FRONT ROW FOR NSYNC. I released my inner 11 year old fangirl again. I think my vocal chords were bleeding. But NSYNC was right in front of my face. I don't know how to process that. I'm in awe.
My memory is a little fuzzy, but the next big thing I remember was One Direction winning their award. I was so proud. I took a video (we weren't really allowed to take pictures or anything but other people were. Some were getting in trouble but most weren't. So when I felt like being risky I took my phone out and this was one of those cases.) I was livid when people started booing them. I don't even know why because the crowd was cheering so loudly whenever they were mentioned during the show. And it didn't sound like people around me on the floor were booing. It sounded like it came from the people in the seats idk. It was so incredibly rude. Like I can't stand Taylor Swift but I didn't boo her. I'm so glad Lady Gaga talked to them about it. She's my new hero. And I'm glad Rihanna supported them too. I was really worried about the boys. They absolutely 100% deserved that award and the crowd's reaction appalled me. DON'T BE RUDE.
This happened when I was at the stage for Macklemore. I really wanted to look back and see Harry and Louis' reaction to Same Love but because I was so close to the stage I couldn't really do that. But I guess they weren't even in the audience at that point anyway so I don't feel so bad. That performance was incredible. It gave me chills. Definitely something I will never forget.
Other things I randomly remembered now. Gaga was awesome. Couldn't really see her aside from staring at the screen on the ceiling, but she was amazing. Miley scared me. Drake walked past me. Selena Gomez looked so pretty. JARED FREAKING LETO. AND JOSEPH GORDON LEVITT. I love them you don't even understand.
So overall it was the best experience of my life so far. It was just so cool and surreal. Seeing all of that in person. It looks so different when it's on TV. I need to watch the VMAs and see if I can find myself. But it was just incredible. I'm so happy I got to experience that. I may remember random other things throughout the day so I'll probably end up adding onto this. I'll post a few of my pictures in this post when I upload them. They aren't great but still. If you just read all that sorry for my jumbled ramblings.
