July Veronica Mars Fic Prompts

What better way to celebrate the arrival of warmer weather (for some) than writing some fic? What do you, friends?! Let’s do it.

Also, DON’T FORGET about the Summer Lovin’ Challenge hosted by @vmheadquarters and this little blog here. It’s an open ship, open prompt blog. The requirements are detailed in the above linked post. We’ll be doing a masterpost of all fics submitted to the challenge, AND if you use one of these prompts we can double promote your work. 

Option One – Picture Prompts – It’s said a picture is worth 1,000 words. Lets see how many one of these this inspires our authors to write.

Option Two - Hot Mess AUs – Let’s be honest - as much as we love them, many of the Veronica Mars characters could definitely be described as hot messes. So, be inspired by one of the following AU prompts. More Hot Mess AUs can be found here, here.

2a. 'last night was supposed to be a one night stand but we drunkenly got each other’s names tattooed on each other’s ass cheeks so now its kind of hard to forget you’ au 2b. 'i asked a staff member and they said you’ve been coming to the pound every day to play with the dog i’m taking home today and that’s why you’re getting weirdly emotional’ au 2c. ‘i called the wrong number and started talking about my life and you only interrupted me after a few a few minutes of me revealing some pretty personal stuff and now you're invested in my life troubles’ au 2d. ‘i’ve had a really awful day so i started kicking a car out of frustration and it turned out to be your car i’m so sorry’ au

Option Three - Word Table Bingo! - Try to make BINGO by using a string of words either horizontally or vertically in your fic.

Option Four - Dialogue Prompts – use one of these lines of dialogue in your fic - feel free to put a spin on it (change tense, voice, make it an internal thought, etc.)

4a. “It's about what's best for all of us." 4b. “You have to leave right now, you aren't safe here." 4c. "I’m your daughter.” 4d. "I'll find her and bring her home, I promise."

Option Five - Character Bonding Moment Generator — Why are people so stinkin’ brilliant! These moments aren’t how your characters met, but a moment that brought them closer: 

5a. Your characters played a prank together. 5b. Your characters talked about the mysteries of the universe while having dessert. 5c. Your characters shared personal stories while working on a project.

Option Six - Role Reversal – We randomly select three episodes of Veronica Mars and then provide two characters in that episode - what would it be like if something that originally happened to one character, happened to someone else in the VM universe? You can completely change the context of the scene, make it go full AU, etc. 

6a. 2x13 (”Ain’t no Magic Mountain High Enough), take any moment or line of dialogue that was said by Madison Sinclair and instead have that moment feature Carrie Bishop. 6b. 2x03 (”Cheatty Cheatty Bang Bang), take any moment or line of dialogue that was said by Duncan Kane and instead have that moment feature Logan Echolls. 6c. 1x09 (”Drinking the Kool-Aid”), take any moment or line of dialogue that was said by Casey Gant and instead have that moment feature Wallace Fennel.

GUIDELINES: When you submit your fic, tells us which of the July prompts you’re answering AND if you’re submitting it to Summer Lovin’. Fics of all lengths are welcome but remember that for the Summer Lovin’ challenge they have to be at least 1,000 words.

DEADLINE: Post the fic on your preferred site, and then just send us a link. Please send the link using the VM Fic Recs submit box by Saturday, July 30. We’ll post the complete list of fics *crosses fingers* by August 2nd. IF YOU’VE ELECTED TO KEEP YOUR SUMMER LOVIN’ FIC ANON, even after the reveals happen, just let us know and we’ll honor that request.
