[2025-10-05 image © Telecom Review Europe.] After a shaky start for 5G where it was only the wireless that was 5G and the backhaul used the 4G core; there has been a move to increase the 5G-SA (Stand Alone) network over more of the UK. This as the name implies uses a newer and faster core network designed specifically 5G.
EE are looking to deploy 5GSA to 17 new cities and towns throughout the UK. O2 are looking to deploy 5GSA to 500 new Towns and Cities in order to become the leading 5GSA network in the UK, VodafoneThree are using the merger to enhance their deployment of 5GSA. Whatever the number are planned we all hope that 5G-SA will become more available by the end of 2025.
