Characters could get called on their shit like we could do with Leliana in Origins, and have potentially bettrr character arcs. Maybe it was just me but aside from characters like Blackwall, Bull, Dorian, Leliana, and maybe Cullen kind of, the characters we met at the beginning of the game felt mostly the same as the end of the game. The happy comfortable with who she is but still has some things to work through Sera we got in Tresspasser felt like the one they should have grown her into at the end of the base game, provided we could help her grow a little through her relationship (platonic or romantic) with the Inquisitor (and a better/different writer). In Origins it felt like they grew more as people via their relationship with you. Morrigan learns she can have a friend/lover with no ulterior motives, Alistair can still be a goof but can learn to take responsibility, Leliana can be comfortable in the fact that she can kill a man with a spoon, etc. This isn't a limitation of the voiced protagonist method, but more (imo anyway) of a limitation of having enough funding (paying voice actors, multiple in Inquisitons case) to record as many lines as silent protag had the ability to say while just being typed out and not said.
There could be more conversations like "I'm and herbalist, take off all your clothes" and totally innocent conversations about lampposts, because those are the best conversations that give the game character.
