One of the more common flavors of emotion that I feel bouncing around in various layers of the Void that make up fear (there's more emotions in the Void of course, positive and negative and everything between and else) is the fear of starting something new, more specifically taking that first step.
There tends to be an overtone of the fear of the unknown, notes of fear of failure, though usually a body of low self esteem more than anything else. The thing I find most interesting, however, is how the flavor changes after taking the step itself.
Fear of the unknown fades, fear of failure loses its strength but doesn't fully vanish until confidence or success creep in, and any self esteem deficiency is alleviated by the loss of those fears, along with keeping the momentum moving forward.
