So last night on my shared Vintage Story world.
My friend found a translocator, oh joy! We had enough temporal gears to fix it too. They went down to fix it while I was working at the base and then realized they didn't bring any scrap metal. Luckily we had scrap metal at the base.
They asked me to bring it to them, I was like sure. I started running. As I got closer to the cave entrance, they helpfully informed me there was a bear nearby. Great! Surely I'll just avoid it.
No.
Now I have three copper spears. Two with near full durability. However only the half broken one was in my hotbar and by the time that thought crossed my mind, the bear was chasing me.
Not killing it.
I take a hit of damage from the bear because for a split second i thought about fighting it.
My friend is like "just come to the cave it'll be fine." I run to the cave.
Dear reader, I forgot the cave mouth is like a 20 block drop nearly straight down.
I drop in, hoping the bear can not follow me. It can. It does. I take fall damage and then the bear lands on my head and kills me. This is now a problem for my friend, who is in the cave with the bear now.
Thankfully they killed the bear and I came back and gave them the scrap metal, but not after they got killed by the bear twice.
