to each their own but i will never understand people who only ship things they think are healthy and morally correct or whatever because for me shipping has nothing to do with what i'd want in a real relationship or my views on real life topics. usually the more fucked up it is in fiction the more i'm going to like it. especially in a show like yellowjackets where all the characters have 1) done awful things and 2) are played by adult actors. including a 30 year old playing shauna's daughter. like these are grown women of course i think they're hot and want to see messed up dynamics in this messed up show. anyway i'm on some lottiecallie shit after episode 2 (don't ever expect to see it on screen though). and ofc shaunahat, in hopefully the most toxic way possible. (can you tell my otp is lottieshauna/butcherqueen?)

i don't know the last time i waited in anticipation of a tv show season premiere i'm so excited blah blah blah anyway i'm about to have a panic attack

'the reason people don't like this ship and are worried about it happening is actually rooted racism and not thinking this character has agency of her own because of this' is wild but okay. i'm just saying this has happened for every fandom ever even with all white casts and idk if it's that deep, it for sure isn't for me. and i'm sorry to break it to you but she actually doesn't have agency because she's a character on a tv show. if she were a real person or we were talking about the way people write non-white characters it would be different so..i understand the sentiment of some things. but i REALLY don't think this is about that. she's shippable because she's an interesting character. people don't want the het ship to happen because we already have plenty and are tired of love triangles that make all of a female character's scenes about a man/men. we like seeing her as queer because we're queer ourselves. i just don't see any difference in this situation vs any other fandom situation. also for the tai/van stuff i think there could be an aspect of racism in like why people prefer other ships over them, but i also think it's common for people to ship non-canon ships because the potential is alluring. compare this situation to brittana and faberry in glee. brittana was super popular, and it was a given in almost every fic because it became canon. but faberry was extremely popular in the fandom and there was just something about it because of the amazing chemistry and potential for those two characters. and similarly we hated that they fought over a man on the show and it was an irritating part that made a lot of us hate the male character more too than we might have if it weren't a damn love triangle.

tldr; i think we should talk more about racism in fandom but i really don't think this particular situation has anything to do with it at least for most people who dislike the ship or like seeing this character as a lesbian or think she's super shippable.

and i'm being purposely vague. idk
