Chapitre 193 - The Seventh Day Birthday

In which we get lovely couple’s portrait!

I love that this could almost be a royal painting hanging up somewhere. Both Fujitaka and Nadeshiko looking important and astonishing in their own right, but both with the matching friendly gentleness that characterises them both. The splash text really captures their vibe in these chapters:

The more love they gave the more hope would remain

Now all that is left for them to do is believe...

It matches them as well as all the other parallel characters who know bits of what's happening but just have to sit by and watch it all from the sidelines (our starting Touya and Yukito, Yuuko, Tomoyo and co, etc)

It's honestly fantastic that Nadeshiko and Fujitaka are shown here essentially as together and NEAR each other but still physically taking up their own individual space. And the casualness of the moment! The soft touch of fingertips to the pillar in passing, the book still propped open as if caught mid-read, the wind blowing Nadeshiko’s hair out in soft arc. Meanwhile Nadeshiko holds a flower (a Nadeshiko flower??) so casually that you might not even spot it unless you’re looking at Fujitaka - which adds a small note of the something lovely that rests between them.

I ALSO love that Fujitaka is visually out in the open but Nadeshiko is framed on three sides with straight lines - she’s almost completely contained, though her hair escapes out on the right. It could be a neat tie-in to the fact that Nadeshiko’s existence seems to be at stake here - Fujitaka appeared to exist in both versions of the Clow Kingdom, but this is the first time we’ve seen Nadeshiko at all. She could, potentially, vanish from the background of this image and not alter the remaining Fujitaka - as she seems to have done with the [whatever happens to the timeline]. It makes their distance from each other just all that much sadder, especially considering that there’s an actual visible wall between them here. Not a huge one, but one nonetheless! Will they soon be separated due to Evil Wolverine’s shenanigans, or does something else cause their separation?

Oh you could also point to their inverted colour schemes as such a LOVELY way to pair them, so that they’re matching and fit perfectly together but also adding just a hint of being on two different sides of reality.

That dress absolutely slaps though oh my goodness.

Interesting that the moon is different over here too. Not quite the complete opposite of the way it is in Clow, but not too far off.

Was the out of sync moon reflection in the ruins that one time a sign that the two worlds were overlapping then, or was it some other Evil Wolverine thing? Is it just the passage of time? It's only been a few days.

THE PROPHECY.

It’s so nice that, after his great and shameful defeat, Touya is taking Lava Lamp around on a tour of the kingdom (though the frame on the first page seems to show that he hasn’t given up his teasing whatsoever)(and we love to see it).

I love that the marketplace + apple + friendly citizens + the lead up to Sakura’s birthday makes a clear line to the Time Loop situation, which would have been stolen from about a day in the future of this moment if I’m counting right? How lovely and terrible at the same time.

OOP IT’S EVEN THE SAME PEOPLE? I WOULD RECOGNISE THOSE TWO ANYWHERE, Enthusiastic Man and Disappearing Cotton Eye Joe!

APPLE PAR-YU IS IT??

THE APPLE TIMELINE IS COMPLETE.

Awfully sad for Nadeshiko though, to know part of what’s coming but having to put on a brave face to not give anything away - and even then we as readers can see the conflict play out as she hopes for the future but knows it won’t quite be enough. She puts a positive spin on it to encourage the six year old who is observant beyond his years, but as they part we can see she knows at least part of what they’ll go through (and gosh, even just a fraction of the Tsubasa plot is enough to traumatise someone).

I love the mention that she wishes she could meet Lava Lamp’s mother - who is a Sakura, like her own daughter, but WHICH SAKURA? Sure wish I knew!

I’d love to try figure out if SHE knows which Sakura it is. If it’s the Cardcaptor then it’s extremely relatable to want to meet her. If it’s a Sakura clone then it’s perhaps even deeper, knowing part of what she’s gone through and where she comes from. There’d be a lot of emotions in that meeting.

But maybe she has no clue and just wants to meet her on the principle that she’s Lava Lamp’s mother and very Sakura-like, which is valid enough on its own!

Also interesting to know that Lava Lamp can just sense people nearby. Even at age 6 or 7.

Oh! Do you think this ties into other things? If Sakura (THIS Sakura) was going through a purifying ritual by staying in the ruins the entire time the sun is up, does that link up with the high amount of other Moon Magic users sprinkled across the storyline? Yukito and Nadeshiko are obvious since they’re in the same priesthood, but also Tomoyo and Yuuko? Emeraude only came out at night, and so did the oni in Outo, as well as the fighting in Shara. Vampires are also usually a night time thing, and we have so many of those.

If we're pretty consistently swimming in moon associations this time around is that to tie them all together under the Yin side of the Yin/Yang dynamic in the story? Are they all stacked up to counterbalance someone particularly strong under the Sun side of things? Because Clow is the only Sun user I can recall, but he's not here, which means that Evil Wolverine would be a natural candidate. And if HE's the primary person on that side of the spectrum, it would make sense that everyone else is on the other side.

Would it be thematically appropriate then that Sakura hides from the sun in the ritual to join this side of the cast? But also awfully ironic that the ruins she’s hiding in are the same ones that Evil Wolverine is making use of, and so hiding from him didn't work after all?

Or is the fact that everything is solidly Night coded all the way through supposed to add to the feeling of imbalance throughout the multiverse? We spend so much time in darkness because everything is going haywire, nothing is in balance anymore.

Either way! I also want to note that Sakura wants to go see the stars - which are her symbol in CCS (and she was specifically balancing both sides of the elements in that version of things).

OH HELLO MOON THAT NOW MATCHES THE ONE ON THE YUUKO PAGES

Either Clow’s moon works differently or weird time stuff is already happening because I’m SURE it’d take longer than like 2-3 days for the phase of the moon to shift from a crescent to a gibbous moon. It’d be like a little under two weeks, unless I’m completely wrong.

Please correct me if I’m wrong I was not good at science.

MYSTERIOUS HYPNOTISING BELL: PART TWO

And there she goes!

I love it.

Last time this happened was ALSO the night before they went to the ruins and Evil Wolverine invaded. Of course in that timeline things had (presumably?) been altered so the details were all off, but the Bell of Foreshadowing is striking in the same place all the same.

In chapter one it was accompanied by Sakura having visions of the future - do you think she gets the same here?

I guess we’ll find out - immediately!

Oh! Now that you point out the lines around Nadeshiko, don't they look like a frame? As in for a photo. Reminds me of CCS!Nadeshiko and how her presence is left in her photos (and her ghost sometimes popping around).
