I see myself as a casual RWBY fan, Vol 9 and the Justice League crossovers piqued my interest in the series, especially since I already knew about it prior but just never really followed it, but i just never got into it cause it didn't look like my thing back then.
But with how I kept my distance from the early fandom back then, I think it was a blessing in disguise, because I got to enjoy THIS moment when Yang and Blake finally hooked up without someone coming to me and screeching to the high heavens how "bad" or "forced" this moment was, my heart melted when I saw everything play out and just can't sing it enough praises.
Vol9 may not be what fans would recommend as a starting point, but I'm glad it was mine.
Also, another reason I'm glad I wasn't in the fandom at the time, though sadly did have to content with when clips showed up on Youtube. was this moment where Ruby has her meltdown and starts lashing out at everyone and she mocks Blake and Yang's hook up.
Narratively, this was good, Ruby was already slowly breaking down and was letting her fears and emotions get the better of her especially given how I believe Vol8 ended on a big cliffhanger where Team RWBY didn't know what became of their friends? and they're trapped in another world with no clue on how to get back and she felt like no one was helping or taking things serious, not helped that she was getting flashbacks to friends they lost when items popped up that triggered her memories of their deaths, as well as Neo coming after them.
As much as I understood Ruby's pov, MAN, it was hard to watch her lash out at everyone. as you see in the screenshot backing down while Yang steps between them.
and contrary to what some of the fandom in those YT comments said, I actually side with Yang with her defending Blake, Ruby may be her sister, but if my family ever tried to lash out at the person who is my partner or acts mean to them, you better believe I'd step in. Yet some of the fans and commentors all sided with Ruby and absolutely trash talked Blake and Yang calling them selfish which i feel isn't true and everyone was trying to get through everything while also dealing with the Wonderland aspect of the world they were trapped in as best they could.
I'm glad things worked out though in the end and while Vol9 isn't perfect, it was something that I appreciate as my first true experience with the show, especially since the CGI and model animation is more refined than what i saw from the earlier Vols in clips, but I can attest that to the tech back then and the show barely starting out.
Either way, I'm hoping RWBY comes back and we get a continuation, I wanna see if the fan ship of Weiss and Ruby comes true lol
