A gastropod fossil of a Voluta alfaroi alfaroi from the Limón Group in Río Banano, Limón Province, Costa Rica. While this Miocene aged subspecies of V. alfaroi is not particularly rare, fossils from Costa Rica are not often seen. This genus of predatory sea snail or volute still roams around the oceans today.
hello my dears... today is snail party day... ill be showcasing a small collection of identified and unidentified snails ive shot... starting with the noble volute (Cymbiola nobilis)
one of my older shots but its a remarkable marine snail... with a massive wavy patterned shell and a body with orange and black spots...
despite being called a "noble volute" this creature is in fact rather dishonourable... it spends most of its time sulking within its shell and leaving harsh comments on instagram reels

Another battered seashell from the pile.
A large sea snail, endemic to New Zealand, where it lives on soft sediments hunting down and smothering bivalves. The surface of the intact shell is yellowish-white with chestnut zig-zag markings that vaguely resemble Arabic writing.
