WHY isn’t the Air Awakens series talked about?? The original series and the two spinoffs honestly deserve so much more attention.
work has been a mess but i wanted to update on my current reading: spinning silver by naomi novik (audiobook) and vortex visions by elise kova
im super excited with both books, one for its russian lore (to which i find myself growing addict to); and another for is the spin off of air awakens
i will try to update on my thoughts BUT as i say: work had been insane lately
“It’s okay.” Vi pressed her eyes closed, feeling the intricate embroidery that covered his chest sink into her skin as she tried to remove all space between them. Nothing was okay. Her world was changing faster than she could keep up. But his arms remained around her - firm and unmoving. Perhaps that was what he’d meant. They were okay. This one beautiful and unexpected thing she could rely on when everything else was gone - that was still okay.
2020 Books: Chosen Champion by Elise Kova
"Her father had told her once to always keep her eyes on her greater goal; never risk losing the war to win a battle."
Characters of my favorite book in the whole wide world~! Air Awakens Series by Elise Kova. I have reread the series again for the umpteenth time, and each time my heart never fails to feel their genuine love for each other. <3
TITLE: Vortex Visions AUTHOR: Elise Kova RELEASE DATE: February 4th, 2019 READ DATE: January 28th, 2019 PUBLISHING HOUSE: Silver Wing Press RATING: ★★★★★
ARC provided from the author in exchange for an honest review (thank you Elise Kova, queen of my life!!)
I’ve said it a thousand times and I’ll say it a thousand more—Air Awakens is the best thing that’s happened to the YA fantasy genre and the fact that it isn’t more popular is the bane of my entire existence. AND YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THAT.
in a very Elise Kova-like fashion, Vortex Visions is equal amounts sappy, perfectly lighthearted and lovable trashy high fantasy, while also succeeding to build a phenomenal atmosphere and contribute to the gorgeous world building we’d been left off with from the previous series. and oh God—do I love every little detail about this world!!!! these books have brought me so much joy and I can’t imagine a world where I can’t immediately resort to an Elise Kova book in times of peril. the characters in this series are so, so magical and I SQUEALED every time someone from the previous series showed up/was mentioned. I also adored every new character we were introduced to in this book and I genuinely can’t wait to find out more about everybody—Romulin and Taavin especially. they’re both so mysterious in their own respective ways and AAAAHHHHHH I can’t wait to finally, FINALLY see everyone from the old series again in the next book!!! God this series literally owns my LIFE. such a perfect read, such a perfect book, such a perfect world.
in all honesty you guys, it really does hurt that Elise Kova doesn’t get the credit she overwhelmingly deserves as a writer. she’s pushing books out left and right like it’s nobody’s business and they’re always so bold and full of life and she writes from such a heartwarming standpoint gaaaaahhhh I just love her so much, she genuinely deserves the world and if all her previous books were not proof enough, this one definitely is!!!!
just as a little end note if you plan on picking this book up—even though Elise has said that this one can be read on its own and that you don’t need to read all 5 books of Air Awakens, I do believe Vortex Visions becomes that much richer if you DO read the previous books, as far as character context and world building go. I personally adore literally everything from the OG Air Awakens and would vouch for it WITH MY LIFE. READ THESE BOOKS. SUPPORT ELISE KOVA. THAT’S ALL.
