Plant nerd activity ahead open at your own discretion
- ZZ Raven
Looking for some plants to fill in the darkest corners of my house, and the standard ZZ isn’t my cup of tea, but I just can’t resist the dramatic dark color of the Raven variety.
- Anthurium Clarinervium (dark form)
For my first beginner foliage anthurium. I’ve already got an anthurium andraeanum that seems to be very happy in my home (even if he looks a little funny) and I’d like to try my hand at something with more striking leaves. Look at those patterns! The velvety dark color! The cute heart shape!
- Philodendron Brasil
I love heartleaf philodendrons, and the brasil’s fun lime green stripes and thick pink stems are so cool looking to me. I know I can take care of heartleaf philodendron (even though my hederaceum is kinda struggling rn due to Amateur Plant Parenting but hey we learn from mistakes)
- Philodendron Burle-Marx
A classic easy philodendron that grows like crazy and gets really big and fluffy. I love philodendrons and I think it’s a crime I only have the one species. I love burle-marx’s crisp glossy green leaves and how they layer over each other when the plant gets really dense and full.
- Variegated Spider Plant
I know this is a super basic boring plant and I used to not be interested but now that I have a bunch of plants that all have a very similar leaf shape, color, and growth pattern, a classic spider plant seems like a nice way to add variety to my collection for cheap and easy. I love seeing the little spider babies when these plants get super mature and fluffy.
✨🌱Rarer Plants 🌱✨
These are some plants that I really really want and I’m pretty confident I could challenge myself to keep them even though they’re a bit more difficult than my current plants, but I’m not actively seeking them out because they tend to be a little more expensive/rare and I don’t want to spend a lot of money on a plant I might kill. If I saw them for a good price, though, I’d pounce.
- Philodendron Florida Ghost
Literally I have no words just LOOK AT IT
Flaming Sword Bromeliad (Vriesea Splendens)
I didn’t like bromeliads until I saw Her. Now I’m obsessed.
Nepenthes Ventrata or Nepenthes St. Gaya
Nepenthes are the only carnivorous plants that interest me. I just think they’re so cool and beautiful and they add such a Vibe to a room. Just, tremendously badass plants. Ventrata and St. Gaya are recommended as beginner Nepenthes and are tough enough to be grown in a home with enough humidity. I’m not interested enough in carnivores to be buying specialty equipment or keeping them in unattractive displays for Ideal Growth Conditions so the more casual varieties are great for me. I love the shape of the Ventrata’s pitchers and the spots on the St. Gaya.
