The Power Scaling Iceberg Explained

There's something Ironic about the stereotypical power scaler. The guy who insists X Series is the best because it's characters are so much more powerful than other series. The kind of guy who wants to show how much stronger his character is than yours.

The irony is that this kind of guy would probably get kicked out of the designated power scaling places, Vs Debate forums.

I've frequented vs debatev forums for over two decades at this point, and in that time I've realized that the people who tend to stick around such places and frequent them aren't really interested in winning arguments. They're interested in the act of debating itself.

To that end, they're frequently willing to fudge details in order to ensure that a match is interesting. People posting matches are allowed to apply clauses to keep things interesting. The most common one is the Speed Equalized clause. That clause makes everyone pretend that both characters are equally fast, since speed differential is often a single factor turning an encounter into a one sided stomp.

Stomps aren't normally fun for them. They're boring, and deliberately making a one sided stomp is against the rules in most vs debate forums I frequent. Coming in with an agenda, trying to prove your fave is the best isn't gonna make you popular. Vs Debaters are also annoyed by that guy.

And they have fun at that kind of guy's expense. To ilustrate that point, I'll share an anecdote from one of the vs battle forums I frequent, the Space Battles vs debate forum.

Space Battles started as a website dedicated to military scifi, and to thiss day it's fanbase tends to be people that enjoy that kind of thing. Warhammer 40k is bigger there than I'd wager it is on most websites.

And so one day, someone decided to put the big dog of Warhammer 40k, the God Emperor of Mankind, in a vs debate. His opponent was a fellow immortal, a a fellow ruler of earth. But this ruler had a far different aesthetic. They were the opposite of Grimdark.

They were the one named Sailor Moon.

And right from the start, the response to the match up was nigh unanimous. The God-Emperor of Mankind...got absolutely folded in half by Sailor Moon. Everyone agreed that Sailor Moon was simply too powerful for him to stand a chance against.

Everyone that is, except for the guy who insisted that the God-Emperor could win. He would post arguments in his favor, only for them to get shot down. people continuously dunking on his arguments and remaining in lockstep that the 4'11" middle schooler would wreck the God Emperor's shit.

ventually, the guy gave up ...but then the thread got found by another guy with an agenda, a guy who wanted to argue for the Emperor. And then after he finally gave up, there was another.

The thread became a legendary part of the site's culture. The time they spent something like 20 pages telling people that the pastel magical girl kicks the grimdark sci -fi overlord's ass
