The thing about Power Scaling is that IS a form of media analysis.
The ideal form of a power scaling debate is that you take as much evidence as possible from the presented mediums and try to find a pattern/level from examining that story/characters that compares another medium in the debate.
But as with all forms of media analysis, there the disingenuous and the egregious.
The former tends to fall under what most would call the "Blue Curtains" type of commenter: "The drapes are blue because the author likes blue hueueueue" tier arguments
So when you get people wanting to partake in Goku vs Superman, you get the people who are "clever" and go, "Silly powerscaler, don't you know they'd be friends! And that whoever wins is who the author wants!"
However, that literally does not actually engage with the question at all. And for the second half, we aren't talking about who the author would let win, we are asking "Based on the media analysis available, can we determine who could win based on the evidence presented?"
It's a thought-provoking exercise and should be treated as such.
On the other hand, the egregious. The type of power scaler that you'll see engaged with dishonesty for "agenda" and misunderstanding that "strong = better written".
Its the same sort of mindset that leads to some readers thinking that just because a medium has a lot to say, that inherently makes it good, rather than the quality of HOW it expresses itself.
And also leads to weirdoes harassing creators to fulfill their "agenda", such as the case where a God of War writer being asked multiple times online if Kratos was a "4D meta paracausal entity" (paraphrased on my end), only to be met with confusion by the writer, because that terminology is isolated to a niche part of the community
And is really cringe.
