Today I started working on a big issue at work. A month ago one of our legacy services finally went down due to some data changes.

The task of updating this to our modern data models has fallen upon me. Yes, me. The Junior. I'm the first person to touch this project since 2020...

installed VSCodium, and i made a simple little thingy that gives you a random six digit integer, and other than having to look up how to wait for a key press on Linux, its nice to see i have not entirely forgotten what i learned during my GCSEs :D

VSCodium is VSCode without the Microsoft spyware and AI! Literally!

VSCode is Open Source. Microsoft adds a bunch of proprietary stuff and its own license. VSCodium takes the source, disables and cripples all the telemetry and AI, and packages it up for you!

A lot of corporate software is that, a wrapper around Open Source code.

VSCodium is a Free, cross-platform, easy to use, extremely powerful IDE. I wonder how long until Microsoft tries to change the license on the VSCode source.

CodeiumをVS Codiumで使ってみる

CodeiumはAIを使ったプログラミング補助機能を提供するIDEのプラグインです。 早速、VSCodiumで使ってみました。 デジタル時計を表示するJavaScriptコードがほぼ自動的に書けました。 これまで何かをやりたいときにネット検索して望むものに近い実装例を探すなどしていましたが、これを使うとその手間が省ける感じです。 ソースコードの説明もしてくれます。 自分はVSCodeの拡張機能を作ったことがないので規模感がよくわかりませんが、例えばOllamaのような言語モデルをローカル環境で外部アプリケーションに提供できるものを使えば案外こういうのが簡単に作れるのではないかと思います。 こういうツールはしゃぶり尽くすくらい使って限界を見極めないと使いにくいかなとも思いますが、コーディングの面倒くさい部分を軽減してくれるだけでも有効でしょう。 同様のことをローカル環境で動く…

Streamlitのチュートリアルを書く

StreamlitはPythonでWebアプリケーションを開発するときに使用するフレームワークの一つです。 Pythonは研究や教育の現場使われることが多いプログラミング言語ということもあってか、研究や教育の本質的なテーマに集中できるように簡便な方法でプロトタイプアプリケーションを作る環境が多い印象です。このStreamlitも非常に素早く動くものが作れます。 今日はモノづくり塾の塾生向けにStreamlitのチュートリアルを書きました。１２のサンプルプログラムがあります。 一通り書いて動かしてみればStreamlitがどういうものか雰囲気がつかめるという内容です。 プロジェクトは塾のGitLabに置き塾生が自由にアクセスできるようにしておきました。 今日は朝早くから野暮用で出かけて少し疲れましたが、なんとか１日１テーマの新規学習ができてホッとしています。
