Made a few presets for my first attempt at a synth. Decided to make a chill test track with it. I didn’t realize how long the test track was until I was about to upload it here... and discovered that the filesize was too big. I had to re-render it down at 128k instead of 192. D’oh.
I’m using the demo version of SynthEdit, which only lets you make 12 presets. Well, it only puts the first 12 presets in when you create the plugin. It lets you make the usual 128. I spent some time yesterday making twenty of them, only to realize that I could only use 12. D’oh again.
Still, I only used five of those instruments for this little track. And other than some resonance issues that I’d already noticed when I first finished the synth (For some reason when you hit C6 there’s some weird feedback. I used a filter to get rid of the worst of it here, but you can still hear it here and there.) I think it isn’t half bad for a first attempt slash learning experience. It can go from clear simple synth tones, to muddy VHS themed synths. Or from clear more lifelike bell or plucked tones to scratchy bowed sounds. Every instrument except for the drumbeats here was done with this simple little synth.
(And yes, I called it A Two-Timing Oscillator, which makes this a Two-Timing Test Track. It has two oscillators, each one has two filters, there are two LFOs, and it was a treacherous journey creating it.)
