12. What happened that led up to their embrace?

I'm currently working on a little comic that shows the night of Pepper's embrace, actually!! So if you'd like to wait, a lot of the context will be shown there :3

But if you'd like me to give you the summary for Pepper either way, basically what happened is that she was murdered by the Southland Slasher(not a planned murder, more like an accident), and then saved by Vincent through the embrace. Pepper was originally a bartender from San Diego who Vincent met while visiting the city, looking for a missing person. Now, the why of his reasons is a long story, but the gist of it is that Vincent became friends with Pepper and started falling in love with her, but never told her how he felt nor the truth about him being a vampire. Pepper had a crush on him but never told him either. He went back to LA after a couple of months and they didn't see each other for six months, until Pepper came to visit him after getting fired from her bartending job. They hung out in Santa Monica, ended up at the pier in the late hours, and just had the bad luck of being there in the same night as the Southland Slasher. A fight broke out, Vincent got flung the fuck off the pier, and Pepper got bloodsucked to death by a big werewolf-vampire thing. Pepper doesn't remember what happened after that, she only finds out later when she meets Vincent again(after she goes to the Downtown area of LA), but basically she got embraced by him and the slasher got framed in his place.

For Vincent, his embrace happened because his sire(Caroline) was a Camarilla spy in LA in the 80s who was looking for someone to be her pawn and spy on the Anarchs for her. She picked Vincent because he was what she considered to be a good blend of smart and easily manipulable people-pleaser 👍🏻 she disguised herself as a college teacher and picked him among her students, tricking him into believing he was getting picked for an exclusive internship while it was actually just an invitation to the hell of being Caroline's childer. So she embraced him on campus, forced him to isolate himself from family and friends, and then, yk, put him through the torment nexus.

13. Was their embrace painful? (Either emotionally or physically)

For Pepper, yep, it was very painful. Really traumatizingly painful, but also emotionally scarring. Throughout all of VTMB she's basically dealing with the trauma of being violently killed. It's an experience she can't forget and is definitely showing signs of ptsd from, but she has no idea that that's what that is fjkdkskf she's just trying to make it to the next night while having nightmares and an inexplicable fear of being attacked paired with a fixation on learning 1001 ways to punch people, as well as a constant creeping feeling that she's not safe. Inexplicable. No idea where that's coming from.

For Vincent it wasn't violent, but it was very emotionally painful. Caroline basically ripped his life away from him, his goals and dreams and loving relationships, all in favor of making him into her little errand boy. He was starting to build a good life for himself, and now he'll never be able to get that life back.

14. How did they initially feel after being embraced? Did they like being reborn into something new or did it take them a while to cope with their new reality?

OH I accidentally answered part of this one in the answer above fjfkkckck but basically they both felt conflicted and it wasn't something they initially liked. Pepper did grow to enjoy some parts of it, and in the end she actually felt a bit glad that it happened, because she'd been feeling pretty empty about her own life before all this, and becoming a vampire changed a lot of things and in a way gave her a new sense of purpose and power she severely lacked before as a human. For Vincent, he's never been happy that it happened, but he's adapted over the years and now just feels like pre-embrace Vincent was a completely different person than who he is now. A different person, a different life, like that was a completely different reality- not better or worse, just different.

16. How good are they at acting "alive"?

Pretty good I'd say! They both have high humanity and blush of life doesn't take much out of their blood so they have that shit On most of the time jfjsjfjv Vincent can even ingest food and drink and hold it in for a while. He does have to puke it out after a little bit tho, but mostly it helps him keep up appearances. Pepper could technically do the same thing but she thinks it's too gross dlfdfld

(also, I just generally have some headcanons for blush of life fslfjsl I know it's not 100% lore compliant but I headcanon that they can just have it on most of the time without thinking too much about it unless they're hungry or frenzying. mostly bc of aesthetic and convenience reasons djkfhkfd it's easier to blend in and easier to tell when they're hungry/frenzying through visual signifiers. I hc lower humanity vamps as having to actively use blush of life tho and that it takes more out of their blood. I also hc the 'no sex' rule away. if they were horny before, they're still horny now. I rest my case 😤)

28) What's something that you'll never forgive?

There was this one time I was riding with Emir and Godwin. We were talking about how much we had wanted to have a child, right–it was sad because you know not having a baby was a big regret for me–And off hand I said it was a shame we didn't know my sister was alive as, maybe she would have been a surrogate…

and Emir said she was past her prime.

Can you BELIEVE THE NERVE OF THAT MALKAVIAN.

26. Do they want to become human again or are they fine as a kindred?

He's definitely able to see the benefits of being a kindred. I'm not sure if he'd want to go back to being human, considering how he's spent so long adjusting to being kindred. it would probably be like chucking a baby into white rapids.

45. What are their disciplines?

Animalism (2) and Fortitude (1) for clan disciplines. he's got an animal famulus, and feral whispers, and unswayable mind. bc hes a farmer, i took 1 in protean for eyes of the beast

14. Who is the (in character) oldest and the (in character) youngest? Would they like each other?

So my oldest vtm character forever and always will be The Lady, she's a child embrace who is physically about 8 years old and literally around 1300+, give or take a few years. She's a ventrue who is a secret noddist and has some deep plans of her own, generally lacks emotion (because if she leans into it too deeply she gets pissed more often than not) and enjoys acting childish whenever she can to relax.

My youngest is Little Annie, a malkavian who believes she can see demons (anyone with green eyes and several other vague identifiers she refuses to elaborate on) and seeks them out to brutally murder them. She's not really all together there, but she loves God and believes she works for him.

I think The Lady would find Annie a fascinating specimen and I think Little Annie, who naturally believes children are angels from God, would listen to anything The Lady tells her to do. I think they could be friends, in some way.

16. Do you have a character that was created from a dumb/ silly idea but now you can't imagine not having them?

AND IT'S JOHNNY GOOD WITH A STEEL CHAIR

Johnny Good is another Ventrue of mine who was invented as a pure joke of "Ventrue who fails 24/7 finds a magic item that gives him perfect luck and turns his life around" and he has evolved to be one of my favorite comedy characters. He simply can't stop winning and it PISSES people off.

19. Which character is least spoken about? Speak about them now!

I don't talk about Isabella a lot because she's the leader of the Sabbat pack menacing my chronicle but I really enjoy her. Her exact age hasn't been clarified, but she's old enough to have located and stolen two objects from the corpse of Judas. She's an infernalist Lasombra who has only ever felt emotion twice in her entire lifetime, including her human life, and it has made her a brutal sociopath, someone who does horrible things for the vague chance of maybe feeling something, and to pass the time. She burnt The Lady's child alive because she was jealous they existed, and burnt Tammy's eye out of her skull just because it was something to pass time.

She is well and truly fucked up, half invincible, and will probably cause my players so many more problems when they try to actually deal with her one day.

15) Who do you pretend to like

Tsk. Most people in the Ventrue circles. At least the Ventrue from London. They're "old school" anti low clan, pro-Fully blood bond to mithras type of situation. They are always hungering for power or being swallowed by those who will. that I simply can't stand.

21) How did you die

Hmm. Interesting you find me like this, pet, for I do not tell it honestly to most. I leave bits out, here or there, and of course if you're stupid enough to believe what's on record, (That I died in battle and my Domitior simply wanted to save me) then you're more naive than I thought.

In truth, my embrace did not come in the heat of battle, but followed a heated argument with my Domitior, Edmund. I had lost my left arm in the dreaming, (of which its its own tale.)

He had made the decision to allow an exhausted Tzimisce to remove my arm (and I suppose save me from complete purification) so I was a bit... Touchy.

I allowed the mask to drop once. I was angry. I couldn't play my lute anymore. Of course I felt my life was over. So he decided he would embrace me there and now.

We left the wagons we had been traveling in and he lead me off the side of the road. Tertius, Emir, my husbands Hengist and Godwin. My dear friend Marco...

I laid beneath a tree, and in the arms of Edmund and Tertius. You must understand, Edmund feared his blood to be weak. His friend died at the hands of a failed embrace. But that's another matter.

Emir drained the life from me.

And Edmund and Tertius fed me their blood. I awoke as a...Ventrue. with a lot to prove.

My biggest secret? Eli. Yeah Eli knows everything I'm up to!

I believe in humanity! I believe we must protect them. Take care of them..some people are shit yeah, but I believe the majority aren't. We gotta Protect this world. it's got poptarts, model planes, coffee shops, sail boats, anime, and all the other things that are worth living for. I think that makes sense.
