Shout out to the real winners of the 40k Armageddon reveal... The Squigs!

Short for "Squiggly Beasts", the term Squig is a catch-all phrase for the multitude of Orky sub-species that emerge from the same fungal spores as Gretchin and Orks.

Squigs come in many shapes and sizes; but all of them are somehow useful to an Ork. From Hair-Squigs worn like living toupees, to Oil-Squigs that secrete fluids for lubricating machinery, to face eating Gnasher-Squigs that make for good Squig eating contests (swallow the Gnasher-Squig whole without it biting your face off).

None of these Squigs look particularly useful; but then again, who's to say what is useful to an Ork... other than another Ork.

Still, its good to see some extra Squigs kicking around new Ork sculpts just being there.

WAAAAAGH!: A rant about interesting rules

In terms of ttrpgs, I am a big fan of rules that turn flavor into function. So you would imagine my joy when I found this while reading through Hamwarmer: Age of Sigmar: Soulbound’s Champions of Destruction supplement. And now I want to rant about it.

So to start off with, in order to understand why this rule is so good, you have to understand the flavor context for this rule. Orks (or Orruks here) in all Warhammer settings are beautiful boyz. They speak in thick Cockney accents, and have a number of strange, violent mannerisms. In this supplement, they are additionally backed by Ogres, Grots, Hobgrots, and Troggoths, all of which, along with orks are basically different flavors of strange hooligans, with varying intensity of power. And they all (ok, maybe with the exception of Ogres), embody a very direct sense of slapstick comedy.

Waagh! Energy does a really good job of capturing so much about these factions despite its simplicity. Basically it changes the way your normal soulfire energy works, and makes it affect the whole group when activated (and gives it a better name). This change allows it to embody the energy of the mob, the tangible escalation of violence. A last violent battlecry in a long standoff. thank you for listening to my TED talk

So yeah, Soulrippa Bigdakka,called that way because it is said that he rips his enemies souls out of fear, is in search of the prophet of gork and mork,some could think that ghaz is the one,but the last thing knew about the waagh is that they crashed against him in the surface of Phaenrax Epsilon

Okay so lore aside, in the painting side of things I want to do a bluish-purple waagh,but I think it ended waaay too purple(roll the joke) but in what I can confidently say I am proud of is the conversions.I love how silly the weapon on my warboss is and I loooove my weirdboy(right of the painboy)[guess the reference].

I have 2 extra units that I can't show in this post because I have cap the maximum of photos per post soo, I will add them later.

OK OK OK LISTEN TO ME GITZ

Someone has definitely had this line of thought before but I am very sleep deprived and wanna write a long ass post about something.

I reblogged a piece of art of what was described as a demi-krork and in the tags I put this:

And upon some more reading I think it is very possible that this is what “The Beast“ was or, more likely, just “The Beast of Beasts” was a Krork..

For those that don’t know, The Beast was the name given to the Warbosses that led the largest WAAAGH! the galaxy has ever seen and the biggest threat to the Imperium besides the Horus Heresy. The Beast of Beasts was the biggest of these Warbosses, standing at least 10 meters tall. The Beasts were also supposedly very intelligent with at least one of them being able to fluently speak Gothic. Now of course this could just be down to Orks in general getting smarter when more and more of them are together, which naturally the largest WAAAGH! ever which included nearly every Ork in the galaxy is bound to do. However this also seems very Krorky.

Krorks were the proto-orks who were possibly made by the Old Ones near the end of the war in heaven against the Necrontyr and the C’tan. Krorks are told to have been smarter, bigger and more technologically advanced than the Orks of the 41st millenium. On top of this the Krorks also had the Orks ability to believe so hard that what they believe becomes true. We have an example of a Krork in the current state of the Galaxy in the form of something owned by everyones favourite kleptomaniacal Egyptian robo-boy Trazyn the Infinite. Trazyn has in his enourmous collection a 12-foot-tall Krork that is wearing a power armour more advanced than that of an Astartes.

The novels do however classify the Beast as “Prime Orks“ but the description of a Prime Ork is incredibly similar to that of  Krork. Smarter, better tek, psychic power and, of course, L A R G E. Lexicanum also only says that the six Lesser Beasts were Prime-Orks, however, I have not been able to verify their source since I do not own a copy of the Novel The Beast Must Die.

Also yeah someone in the comments of the post I reblogged did call it a Prime-Ork.

For the reasons of the Beast of Beasts being both smart and being at least 10 foot tall, I believe that he was a Krork. How he stayed alive for literal millenia, I have no clue but Trazyn still has his Krork ten millenia after the war of the beast so hell, why not?
