We could still be grounder buddies, it would be so much fun :) ! Yeah seeing if an unofficial meetup can happen seems like a good idea, I hope it happens. I KNOW RIGHT??? Everything has literally been set up and all they need to to is open the damn doors. It makes no frigging sense, it honestly seems suspicious about this whole thing. Yeah I saw the thing about the guest saying that ifcon didn't honour their agreement too and that got me worried.

Dude, hell yes, we are 100% pissed off Grounder buddies now! And I am seriously hoping something can be done, I know a lot of people who were seriously looking forward to this, even though it was just a small little island con.

It really does make absolutely zero sense, and no one has decided to clarify it. Here’s is the full extent of information that has been given to the exhibitors, celebs, and VIPs in a secret Facebook group that I’m a part of (the most information I’ve been able to find, and it’s still unsatisfactory)

IFCON OFFICIAL UPDATE:

My name is Bob Lynn - I have been a friend of Bill Code for 27 years and I have been asked to post this notice and the following information.

For the past 16 months, Bill has dedicated all his time, effort, energy and every cent he has earned into this project to the tune of over $ 84,000.00.

Last Sunday, Bill collapsed on the floor and had to be rushed to the hospital and admitted to Emergency. Today, he has been transferred to intensive care and will be taken into surgery later today. He is fighting for his life.

Unfortunately, due to these circumstances and the fact that Bill will be unable to handle and direct any part of the convention, and after tireless work by a few people who have stepped forward to try to salvage the event through damage control etc, it has been decided that it is impossible for it to go on so IFCON is now officially cancelled.

All the money put into the event from facility rental, flights, hotels, advances paid to celebrities, the show booth providers and much more that has been paid in advance is non-refundable to Bill or IFC Productions.

I know all of you are going to be more than disappointed with this situation however, it is important to note that Bill did his best and this would have been one of the most outstanding conventions had it come to fruition.

I am sorry to be the one who has to bring these sad tidings to your attention and I know many people are going to be upset but I ask you to please consider the circumstances and Bill's ongoing struggle to get through his surgeries and survive and hopefully recover.

I know some of you will be mad but please, do not post negativity. Please, if anything, send best wishes and prayersto Bill for his recovery.

Ken Twyman will be handling all enquiries and all other matters will be dealt with by him. Ken has stepped up and is trying his best to handle all the fallout from the situation. Please be professional and businesslike in your dealings with him. Shouting, screaming or hell raising is not going to change anything so thank you in advance for your co-operation.

I’m posting this because most people do not have access to this information, which is complete bullshit. Yes, it’s a horrible situation. But the con should never have been so closely tied to one man. And they do not address any of the important information for the people they send the message to, they only state things that show how hard it is for them. 

I’m giving the “official” committee today to fix/address the issue in any way, and tomorrow I will start being less kind and understanding in my message to them. I will still be 100% perfectly polite to them, while citing the ‘refund’ agreement from the site they sold tickets through and explaining to them exactly why they must give refunds or carry on with the event. I’m also documenting every interaction I have with the organization, because I may be suspicious for no reason, or I may need it. They’ve been kicking people from the private group, and I don’t know if that’s an accident or what, but they must honour their contracts with everyone involved in this con.

I was making a cool decked out grounder costume but I guess I won't be able to use it now...I was saying to my boyfriend that even if the lead organizer was in the hospital, they would continue on without him, I mean even theatre actors have understudies, why can't they keep the con alive? I'm just quite angry right now. I've been having such a shitty time for the last little while and I was really looking forward to this...

Duuuude, we could have gotten kickass grounder cosplay pics taken together! I know several people, myself included, have been tweeting Richard Harmon and other celebs to see if they’d still be willing to do an unofficial fan meetup in Vic. Considering they’ve already been paid and have the time off, right?

And yes, this is something I totally do not get. Bill stepped down as lead organizer a week ago due to health issues, and the con was still going to happen. Everything’s been paid for. Schedules have been set. All that needs to happen is for them to unlock the doors at the right time and direct vendors where to set up, scan tickets, and actually do the con. It makes no sense to me that they’d be cancelling it with four days to go. If they were concerned about properly cancelling everything (calling the celebs/their agents, calling all the exhibitors and VIPs, issuing reimbursements for the tickets, etc) it would take two to three days to do that. If they were doing things right, they wouldn’t even be done until the day before the con anyway. I fail to see how this is the “better option”

It makes me incredibly nervous that they’re going to try to ignore me and keep money that they are not entitled to. But I will fight them tooth and fucking nail if they try to deny any attendees compensation for their ticket costs.
