I'm realizing that I won't ever experience the cultural event of Blaseball the same way as I did the first time way back during the Coffee Cup. The world is just a very different place now and a lot of why it resonated with me (and many others) at the time was because of the State of Things. Late 2020 was a scary, overwhelming, isolating time! We didn't have as much of an understanding of COVID-19 yet. Vaccines were still a year away, we were all struggling to adjust to the lockdown, the ELECTION was happening. The community around Blaseball was, for me, a way to connect with people and have something to look forwards to every week in a time when so many of my usual social circles and activities had been cut off. Blaseball I think struck a chord with me because of the circumstances I and the world at large had found ourselves in. It's tempting to miss how Blaseball felt to me back then, but it's for the better that it doesn't. Here's to hoping I find something new to love this Fall Ball.
