Lessons from the Life Cycle of Sunflowers
Sunflowers are my favorite flowers! Everyone who knows me knows that. ~:D Sunflowers are the summer flowers that bring me the most joy and I look forward to seeing them blossom every year! I was inspired this week to write an essay about the lessons and inspirations I've learned from Sunflowers over the years.

I wrote my friend Maria a poem as a gift for her birthday. When I handed her the scrolled paper with the poem on it, puttled together with ribbon, she gave me a hug. I'm so glad she loves her poem!
The photo above features 2 small ceramic pieces Maria made. She gave me a tub of them to place along the labyrinth path in our cohousing community. I placed 2 together in each place, so they become chimes when there's a breeze, making a tinkly sound that brings joy to walkers. ~:0)

My local public library initiated a fun community creativity "challenge" this past month ~ decorating plastic lawn flamingos. This included a party at the library.
It was fun decorating my flamingo and now he greets all visitors in front of my home, along with a black cat silhouette and a bat mobile. Come join his painting paraty on October 31st! I've written more about it on my Ko-Fi page. The top photo (with the sunflowers) is also a link.

"A Tribute to Trees"
Trees are welcoming, caring folk.
The folds of their rough outer bark
Host a diverse community of creatures:
Squirrel families rest in them;
Chipmunks run in circles up and down their trunks;
Birds build nests in their branches;
Frogs find bugs to eat and a place to sing their songs.
Trees provide shade, shelter, and oxygen;
They enhance the nutrients in the earth around them,
And so the ferns and flowers grow.

Trees are generous beings.
They provide seeds and nuts
For the critters who visit them.
Pine cones fall and scatter around my feet,
On the soft carpet of needles
That tickle my soles and toes.

The folds of tree bark
Bear an array of earthy colors,
As do the leaves that grow on them.
The moss and lichen add to the depth
Of their folds, add shades of green
To their browns and blacks.

Trees stand tall, reaching to hug the sun and moon,
Drawing down their energy
To share with all who spend time with them.
Their canopies shelter us
From the rain
And cool the air around us
On hot summer days.
They delight us with the playful shadows of their tree branches,
Dancing in the breezes with the golden sunlight
Splashed across the paths we walk.

They know how to wait;
Their wisdom is ancient;
They are resilient and strong.
Trees have stories to give us
When we take a moment to listen to them speak.
