Adjusting Wallpaper Resolutions

Starting in January, I’m going to streamline the resolutions I’m offering for my calendar and regular wallpapers. This will make it a bit easier to find the wallpaper size you are looking for and makes for a bit less work each month for me. Here’s what they will be: 

Desktop: 2880x1800 Phone: 1080x1920 Tablet: 2048x2048

I decided to go with the highest possible for each, mimicking what I currently offer already. This will also let me quickly adjust on the fly to meet the needs of newer displays. If/when that happens, I’ll be sure to make a note here and I’ll be attaching the size to the download files themselves. 

Thanks again for all the support. Love that you guys download these each month and it’s been fun to continue this tradition of calendar wallpapers for nearly the last 10 years!

Wallpapers

I’m having a self debate on what to do with wallpaper resolutions. Both on my site and dsktps, I offer a wide range of resolutions for widescreen, standard, mobile and tablet. 

Now, mobile/tablet makes a bit of sense seeing as an iPad and Android tablet don’t share the same resolution. But maybe I could slim down desktop (widescreen/standard) to one resolution each at the maximum value. Most desktop OS can scale the image down. 

I would love your feedback. What are your thoughts?

Update to Wallpaper Resolutions

Starting with tomorrow's August calendar wallpaper release, I'll be adjusting the resolutions a bit: 

New - Added a new 2880x1800 resolution! This will make MacBook Retina users and other users with hi-dpi screens much happier.

Updated - I've merged the Android mobile and tablet wallpaper into one offering, with a resolution of 1920x1080.

Updated - iPad offerings are now the full 2048x2048 retina offering (up from 1024x1024 previously). The larger image should still scale down nicely for non-retina users. 

This is just a start will do for now. Eventually I want to create ones for Windows Phone, Kindle Fire, etc users, but will probably wait to do this when I do a full inventory check over dsktps.com wallpaper offerings.

Wallpaper Resolutions

I often get asked why didn't I include certain resolution sizes for my wallpapers. Truth is, it can be a bit tedious to make the current ones and adding more to the mix is a bit tough. I recently wrote up about resolutions we offer at dsktps and plan to do the same with my site in the near future. A quick example: I get asked for 1280x800 wallpapers. While I don't list it on my site (or dsktps), it is the same resolution as the Android Tablet wallpapers I offer. In the future, I will look to renaming my wallpapers to the actual resolution, so I can offer both on my site but only have to offer up one file.  Another take on it: I try to offer a few screen ratios, thus why I offer 1920x1200 instead of 1920x1080. If you wanted a 1080 wallpaper, you can download the 2560x1440 and scale it to fit your device. I may look into offering an actual 1920x1080 wallpaper in the future as we're seeing more tablets at this resolution.
