how did you find ward rounds when you first started? were you nervous?
I found it a bit scary! I can’t remember if I told you guys, but on my first day I got in half an hour early at 8.30 so I could get the list sorted, because it was my first time preparing the list and I knew I’d be slow - but then the consultant turned up at 8.45 and was like ‘why are you taking so long?’. And because it was my first day, I was too nervous to be like ‘well I’m not even supposed to start until 9 wtf???’
So it started me off feeling really frazzled and stupid, because obviously stuff on the list was wrong because she didn’t give me time to do it! But luckily the ward rounds on haem don’t go too fast, and I managed to pick up what jobs to do and that. Some things took a while to get to grips with, like haem-specific things - e.g. the consultants would ask me to do a fungal screen or prescribe chemo prophylaxis drugs, and I’d have to ask ‘sorry, what does that actually mean I have to do?’ but after a while you get the hang of it. x
