There's a character in one of T. Kingfisher's books who is described as having a mind like a lava flow, and the more I think about it, the more I think that fits my take on Red Hot - he's not stupid, but he takes a long time to think things through. If you get him to talk before he's had the chance to process things, yeah, his mouth gets ahead of his brain and he says things he shouldn't... but I also feel like that's why he tends to let Blue do most of the talking, you know?
