There's a character in one of T. Kingfisher's books who is described as having a mind like a lava flow, and the more I think about it, the more I think that fits my take on Red Hot - he's not stupid, but he takes a long time to think things through. If you get him to talk before he's had the chance to process things, yeah, his mouth gets ahead of his brain and he says things he shouldn't... but I also feel like that's why he tends to let Blue do most of the talking, you know?

Idk why Lasha and Casimir are such a problem for me. because like. I have Such a clear image of their Vibe and how they work together and what I want their story to be about. But actually stringing it all together? Hell.

I keep bouncing between formats. The story should be told entirely through Lasha's visits to confession. The story should follow Lasha and his journey of realizing he's miserable as an angel and wants to be human. The story should follow Casimir as he sees something that could destroy him in a heartbeat that's in such a vulnerable place that he sees and takes the opportunity to manipulate it to fitting His image of what Lasha should be. The story should flip between their perspectives. no it should be told from one of Lasha's brothers. No it needs to be in the form of Casimir telling the story decades later. no it needs to be Lasha explaining himself to his brothers. it's just. Frustrating.

and this has been a consistent problem with theses two. it doesn't matter how often I pick them up and drop them. The same problem of format comes back. I know the archs and beats I want to include. I know how their characters develop. I know where it ends and where it begins. but I can't Pick which way to tell it because every format has its pros and cons.

If the Doctor is, in fact, a space jellyfish and an energy-being, then - based on the limited counterexample of the one other qurunx we've met - the Doctor's lifestyle of continually converting their energy into matter and taking organic forms, seems to be kind of freak shit for their species? The other qurunx was just projecting a hologram of a child. The Doctor has made thenself physiologically indistinguishable from a regular gallifreyan/shobogan, aside from that lingering Jellyfish Energy that lets them regenerate

Had the "original" child already taken on a shobogan form before Tecteun found them? They don't seem to have "regenerated" in response to her (though for all we know, regeneration/shapeshifting might have worked completely differently before the "rules" of it were drilled into them), so they didn't necessarily become a flesh-and-blood shobogan in order to appeal to her. Could they have been shapeshifted into a different humanoid species? Were they still more projection than flesh at that point?

But we can assume they'd become a Real Biological Shobogan by the time Tecteun started doing a battery of medical exams after them (which is why it took so long for her to isolate the Jellyfish Genes)

Which means the point when they become a "real" flesh-and-blood gallifreyan, two hearts and all...may have been their first regeneration after being adopted. When the Baby Master (accidentally?) pushed them off that cliff

Qurunx's take a form that they think the person looking at them will want to protect

The Master has a breakdown about the fact that he was remade in the Doctor's image. Hybridized with something unknown. Whatever he used to be - his "true" species, his first body, his original self - has been burned away, ship of theseus'ed into oblivion

But the Doctor also remade themself in the Master's image. So throughly that their "original" form is just as lost to them
