Last night's Japanese themed podcast meal for me, @comixace & @jonhoche. Chicken katsu sandos, wasabi fries & Asian cuke salad! Let's get it! - Chicken: Cut breasts into small pieces & pounded/tenderized lightly. Briefly marinated in sake/rice vinegar/garlic/salt/pepper/smoked paprika. Took out after 20 minutes & brushed off excess marinade. Set aside. Dipped chicken in potato starch/flour/pepper mix. Then egg wash. Then Japanese panko. Pan fried in oil & set aside on cooling rack. - Katsu sauce: Mixed up ketchup/worcestershire sauce/soy sauce/mirin/sugar/dijon mustard/sake. Japanese cole slaw: Chopped up cabbage/carrots/fresh dill/parsley. Added salt/pepper/Kewpie Japanese mayo. Mixed well. - Wasabi fries: Cut 4 russet potatoes into fries shape. Put all in large container w/ water/salt/pepper & let sit overnight. Removed fries & dried off completely. Fried up. Placed all in large mixing bowl. Sprinkled w/ salt/pepper/wasabi powder & shook up/mixed well. - Cuke salad: Sliced thinly 1 English cucumber & 1 roma tomato w/ mandoline. Diced 1 red bell pepper. Put all in strainer. Added sugar/salt. Let excess water drip out. Set aside. - Dressing: Mixed rice vinegar/honey/sesame seeds/sesame oil, red pepper flakes/salt/pepper/sake. Let chill. Then spooned lightly over cuke salad. - Bread: Couldnt find Japanese pullman bread. Used white Hawaiian bread. Buttered each side & lightly toasted in pan. - Assembly: Spread Japanese mayo on bread. Brushed katsu sauce on bread. Slaw on one side. Chicken on other. Closed sandwich. Cut off crusts. Then cut sandwich into 3 pieces. - Result: Fucking delicious! We had a little Japanese Nikka Coffey Grain Whisky w/ it as well. Sandos were crisp & tasty. Fries were great w/ the wasabi. Not too hot. And salad was refreshing. Wasabi Fries: Yay or Nay?

Jolibee in the Philippines is currently offering Wasabi flavored fries. Due to my friends telling me to try it, I decided to try it out while I'm on my way to the hospital. (My mom got hospitalized since Friday.)

I could not provide photos as it was dark and I was on a rush.

My verdict for 3 types of people:

For those who can tolerate spicy food:

Most of you will just say "this is normal."

For those who cannot tolerate spicy food:

You may wanna bring a friend if you will try one, make sure your friend can eat spicy food so that you won't waste your order, make sure to have lots of drinks (water and/or milk) with you so that when its too much, you have something to drink.

For those who are on the neutral side:

I think it still depends on how "neutral" are you, but based on my experience as someone who's trying to get neutral tolerance with spicy foods, its bearable, still get a drink if ever you're not confident enough.

Overall opinion: 7.5/10

I'd say it met my basic standards when it comes to trying out food. I'm glad it was edible and it tasted like Wasabi. When I ate the powder from the fries alone, I kinda drank my Yakult Green Tea I had with me because I couldn't tolerate it all of a sudden. But then its worth the try. Would had tasted better if the fries were crispy/crunchy, the ones served was the soft fries.
